The meeting was called to order by President Michael Day with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for deceased members.
Michael asked any members attending for the first time to announce themselves so that he could welcome them to our association. The following are those members who complied with his request: Marie Lewis Carol Mangenello Gerry Matovic Diane Sabattini Michael Tangle
The May minutes were read by Treasurer Lewis and a motion to accept was made, seconded, and approved.
Michael announced that there will be a meeting on October 28th and that November’s meeting may be rescheduled. We will have the holiday luncheon on December 8th at the Watermill from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. There will not be any meetings in January or February and meetings will be held in March, April and May. Michael would also like to hold an officer’s meeting in March to discuss such items as whether or not to open another CD, limiting our liability, whether to hold a reorganization meeting, and the granting of honorary membership for those members in nursing homes.
Joan O'Grady advised that the address booklets were ready and would be given out to those attending the meeting. We also gained new members from the 2010 retirees. However, there were some mebers who did not send in their checks because they probably forgot so please remind anyone you kinow to do so as soon as possible. Joan also advised that the members love receiving the newsletter so please let her know any items you would like to see in those mailings.
Michael announced that we need a Treasurer and is looking for a replacement for Rose Tycz who did such a fabulous job over the past four years. He advised that it is important to have someone fill this position since we need to keep track of what we spend. We subsidize the luncheons and the bus trips and we give scholarships to both high schools every year etc. so it is extremely important to have our books in order. Please let us know if you are willing to take over the position of Treasurer.
The scheduled Belmont Race Track trip did not work out. Peggy Loucks called Belmont and made the reservation, and Rose Tycz sent in the check. Three weeks before the trip we called to confirm and they informed us that they couldn’t find the reservation or the check and it really didn’t matter because there was no horse racing on the day we had reserved
Michael asked for a show of hands to see how many would be interested in seeing Dracula in Theatre 3 in Port Jefferson. The tickets are $21.00 on Thursdays, but we will pay only $6.00 per ticket. Michael was going to check to see what dates were available. Dorothy Auer and Rose Biscardi offered to drive anyone who would like to see this show. Dorothy also advised that Long Island Radio Promotion from WALK also sells tickets to this event and Carol Kirschner confirmed that she had purchased two tickets for $20.00 from them to see Dracula.
Michael Tangle suggested a trip to watch the baseball game for old timers. We could bring our grandchildren and possibly have refreshments and this idea was well received by all present. We will discuss this further in the spring.
Michael informed us that the move to tax our reimbursement money for Medicare does not apply to us because we do not pay for the insurance. Joan O’Grady suggested that our pensions are solvent but we should keep reading the newspapers and keep abreast on how the situation is progressing.
Anne Bedard advised us that there will be a Chinese Auction and a 50/50 at the holiday luncheon which helps to offset the cost. She needs large baskets for the Chinese Auction and asked for contributions from the members.
A motion was made to end the meeting and seconded. motion apparoved. Respectfully submitted, Gladys Gregnoli/Meier
