NEWS FROM HOME: OCTOBER 15, 2009
Where everyday is Friday.

Fall has arrived and it is absolutely beautiful here on Long Island as many of you remember. As usual the summer went by much too fast but the pending holidays make it all acceptable
Enclosed here is the flyer for our December 2, 2009 luncheon at the Watermill Inn. These are always lots of fun and many members try to put together a table of old friends they have not seen for a while due to our busy lives. It is a great opportunity for all to rekindle old friendships.
Our membership drive has produced many new anecdotes to forward on to you and I will try to put as many as I can here in this letter; if not, they will be in the next one and the one after that. Everyone seems excited to write something to all of you.
Our new Thursday meeting dates (listed in the previous newsletter as well as online) are proving to be very successful. Lunch was very nice at the September 24th meeting and then we all heard the AMAC speak to us about the ABC & D’s of Medicare. It was informative & well accepted.
Letters have gone out to our new retirees and we hope they will join us in keeping the MCRA alive as well as the friendships that are near and dear to our hearts. Please encourage them.
Once again, sadly we have news of friends passing on: Althea Tizzard (Selden JHS); Dr. Milton Silverstein, former President of MCTA; Kay Murphy; Jack Tulaba’s son, Brian; and Stan Anderson’s son, Trace. Writing a memorial on our Wall is always a good way to remember.
Two trips this year; Nova Scotia was lovely and pictures will be on the webpage. Our Trip to Belmont in September was fun & beautiful. We were all winners in one way or the other.
Anne Hoffman tells us she has moved to an Assisted Living complex in Lecano, Florida. and can be reached at 1900 W. Alpha Ct., Lecanto, Florida. 34461 – 352-746-8649. We are unable to reach Barry Luna and Lucy Castelli and we worry about them. Can anyone give us an idea as to where they are? Richard Lundy is moving to San Diego when his house is ready. Kathy Holetsky has had knee problems all summer but is better now. Joanne Allegretti’s daughter, Hillary, is a lieutenant in the Coast Guard and flies a helicopter in California. Ronnie Beatty sends her regards and says she and Bill are doing fine. Jeanne & Greg Kulick say all is well in Palm Beach Gardens with some travel and work mixed in. Warren Hoffmann is a regular travel agent for his beloved Sun City, Arizona and invites us out there to see him. He is Recreational Director of Sun City and wants us to check it out at www.sunaz.com. See you all there! Sheila Boyle sends her regards also and says she is having a wonderful, active life in Florida. Carolyn Acciarito finds retirement wonderful with lots of travel in and out of the country. Pete Amato is feeling good, active in golf and dancing loving the good life. Aileen Arthur informs us she will be 92 this year celebrating with her family and she remembers MCCSD fondly. Tony Baiata sadly states that his cancer has returned after 5 years and is beginning treatment in August. He is confident he will beat this again. Harry Bailey is celebrating each day, the NYS retirement system and the incredibly good life in Southbury, Conn. Frank Barbuto is in Barefoot Bay, Florida and is still a referee for HS wrestling (45 yrs). Harriet Bender sends regards. Pat Benson tells us that George is still in and out of the hospital but they are enjoying the Florida sun. Sam Berkey is celebrating the birth of his 3rd grandchild and says “Now we have one of each”. (That is not a typo, it is Sam at his finest). Bob Berman is still teaching at Concordia College in Westchester and has had his first grandchild, a grandson. As with many of you, he enjoys these news letters. Dr. Joyce Bock is still an adjunct at SCCC and also teaching at NYSUT/ELT.
Until next time, thanks to all who mention how much they enjoy these little writings.
