MIDDLE COUNTRY RETIREES' ASSOCIATION C0NSTITUTION

2017 - 2018

I. Name

The Association shall be known as the Middle Country Retirees' Association.


II. Purposes

The Middle Country Retirees’ Association (MCRA) is a major leading, non-profit, non partisan organization for the retirees of the Middle Country Central School District. MCRA believes that all men and women seek to fulfill their goals and dreams in the latter years; that they seek to be independent, to age with dignity and purpose.

MCRA Seeks to enhance the quality of life of its members as they age.

As an Association, (1) MCRA seeks to promote the dignity, independence, interests and welfare of retired members of the Middle Country Central School District. It seeks to deliver value to its members through information, advocacy and service. It seeks to inform members and the public on issues important to the membership involved; advocating on legislative and legal issues; promoting public service. It encourages older people “to serve, not to be served.” (2) In addition, MCRA seeks to promote mutual assistance and cooperation with other organizations with which it is associated. (3) It also seeks to promote and maintain an interest in the educational programs of the Middle County Central School District.

III. Affiliations


The Association shall affiliate with the groups designated by the membership that are in keeping with the stated purposes of the Association.

IV. Membership

Membership in the Association shall be open to ANY and ALL retired employees of the Middle Country School District as well as anyone whoever worked for the Middle Country School District.

V. Dues

The annual dues of the Association shall be proposed by the President and shall be based on a financial report to be submitted by the Treasurer and subject to the approval by the membership at an annual meeting (June).

Membership shall be obtained throgh the payment of dues ($15.00 per year).

VI. Officers

The officers of MCRA shall be the President, Vice-President, Co-Secretaries (2), Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Trustees (2).


Duties of the President

The President shall administer all affairs and execute all policies of the Association;

Preside at all meetings of the Association;

Develop agendas for all meetings;

Call regular and special meetings of the Association;

Represent or assure representation of the Association with external affiliated groups.


Duties of the Vice-President

The Vice-President shall assist the President in whatever ways the President may deem necessary;

The Vice-President shall take the Presidents place at meetings when necessary.


Duties of the Co-Secretaries (2), Financial Secretary, Treasurer & Trustees (2).

Co-Secretaries (2) will take the minutes of each meeting and shall preserve all election records.

The Financial Secretary will be responsible for membership, the collection of and deposit of dues.

The Treasurer, in addition to his or her usual duties, shall report each month on the expenditures and balances of the Association

Trustees (2)

The Trustees (2) shall be appointed by the President and serve at the discretion of the President.

Trustees shall be empowered to manage the funds of the Association at the direction of the President and the Board of the Association.

In addition, the Co-Secretaries (2), Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Trustees (2) shall perform those duties usual to their offices and such other duties as may be required by the President.


VII. Election of Officers

The President shall appoint a Nominating Committee in April composed of three members of the Association.

The Nominating Committee will propose a slate of officers.

In addition. members of the Association shall be given a reasonable opportunity during the general meeting (June) to nominate individuals for election as officers of the Association.

The election of officers shall be held during the June general meeting and shall ordinarily be by voice vote, yet by secret ballot when membership deems that appropriate at the June general meeting.

Nothing in this Constitution shall prevent the appointment by the members at a regular meeting of an Interim Officer to fill a vacant position prior to the June meeting.


VIII. Terms of office:

Duly elected officers shall serve a term of one year.

Each officer shall remain in office until his or her successor assumes the office.

IX. Amendments

Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any member in good standing and submitted to one of the Co-Secretaries and distributed in writing to each member at least 30 days before a ratification vote is taken.

An amendment may be ratified by two-third vote of the members voting.

X. Enabling Procedure


This constitution shall become effective upon ratification by members in attendance at a meeting called for that purpose (JUNE LUNCHEON) or included on the agenda of a regular meeting as specific conditions may warrant.
