This is my favorite time of the year on Long Island. My forsythia has bloomed and the crocus are up and sprouting. Time for a rebirth is always lifting. Hope you all are experiencing the same feeling wherever you are. We send you best wishes for a safe and happy spring & summer.
On the reverse of the newsletter sent you will find a copy of a letter you should have received in March from the Dept. of Civil Service regarding their Dependent Eligibility Verification Program. Another piece of information from our health insurance program was addressed in a booklet recently received: "The Empire Plan Report." Page 6 states that: effective January 1, 2009 Herpes Zoster Vaccine used to prevent shingles is now covered as an adult immunization under the Participating Provider Progam for indiviuals age 55 and older. "Hurrah!" Michael has been pushing this for almost a year now.
You should also have received a letter from the NYSTRS informing us that our federal tax withholding amounts were changed beginning April l, 2009. This impacts your total annual withholding amount.If you did not receive this letter please call the NYSTRS at 800-356-3128.
The 2009 annual Middle Country Education Foundation golf outing will be held at the Rock Hill Country Club in Manorville, NY on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Selden Middle School has informed us that Barbara Campbell, Judy Illmensee, Sue Massett, Jane McCormack, and Kevin Nolan will be retiring this year. Their dinner will be held at the Watermill on June 25, 2009. For informtion, call Darlene Caccavo at SMS 631-285-8405.
We have heard from the newly re-organized Newfield H.S. Alumni Association. Our May 26, 2009 meeting this year will be held earlier than usual, at 10:00 AM rather than at 1:00 PM at the Rose Caracappa Senior Citizen Center. Louis Marcoccia, the Town of Brookhaven Tax Collector will be visiting the Center; answering questions and accepting tax payments due May 31, 2009. Good source of information, come and attend this one. Rememer the time: 10:00 AM . Also, there will be a brunch that morning for our members.
A birdie just told us that Marie DeMare has recently married. Congratulation cards appropriate.
