NEWS FROM HOME: January 25, 2009

Where everyday is Friday.

I write to you from a cold Long Island. Temperatures here are below 20 degrees many days and sometimes into the single digits later in the day. Snow is covering our ground right now and it looks lovely. School has not been cancelled any days yet but it is only January.

… Our December luncheon was well attended and the Watermill did its usual good job with the cocktail hour. Many prizes were won and it appeared that all had a good time. We thank Ruth Greenberg once again and Anne Bedard and Marlene Lehner for the wonderful raffle table they set up.

… Hopefully everyone received their 2008-2010 Directory. If you have not please contact me at 631-732-3447. I am attaching an addendum for the 2008-2010 directory since we have had some additions. Sadly there are too many new names added to the Wall of Remembrance to be listed here.

... During the October meeting, we had an update on the Shingles Vaccine. ZOSTAVAX is now covered by Medicare. For futher information go to our website and read the minutes Michael always posts there.

… Our November meeting featured Richard Giovan from David Lerner Associates for a wonderful presentation on conservative investing.

… At the end of October those of you who are covered by the NYSHIP (district health plan) should have received your “Notice of Creditable Coverage for persons with Medicare” form from the NYS Dept of Civil Service. Call Liz Jeffrey at 631-285-8047 if you have any questions.

… In December the District sent us a survey to update our information for purposes of reimbursement of your Medicare payment. You should have returned that form already in order to receive your check at the end of January, 2009. Again call Liz with any questions.

…Once again we have sent a Christmas check to “Patty” from the MCRA. She lives in Virginia with her little family. She is one of our kids who graduated NHS from the Special Ed Program and met her husband at Maryhaven. She is a good “kid” and is trying very hard to make a go of it. Patty and her husband are loving parents and doing a great job with their two children, the oldest is graduating from HS this June.

Tell us what’s new…

Miriam Aaronson has had several art shows on Long Island last year and is presently showing her work at the Brentwood Library until the end of January. She also advises us of her website: www.harmonyartgallery.com. Give a look see.

Robert Kahl sent in his dues late this year and in formed us that his dad was ill but is doing much better as of that day.

Lois Manfre was tardy also and says that she and her husband, Ken and son, Keith, are all healthy and doing well. She wishes us all a Happy New Year.

Diane Sandford has had some health problems that have kept her busy but all is well now and looking forward to participating in MCRA a little more.

Don Tamburro sends us a Christmas card and tells us he is finally going to retire. He has been directing and producing TV commercials and says it has been fun but “there comes a time”. Don’t we all know it!

TELL US WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU!
Remember to STAY IN TOUCH and please send us any changes of address.
