NEWS FROM HOME: OCTOBER, 2005
Where everyday is Friday.

Our October 25, 2005 meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather. Hurricane Wilma and Alpha combined along the Atlantic Coast to cause dangerous winds and high tides along the eastern seaboard effecting Long Island. Since many of our members live in low-lying areas, we decided it was too dangerous to have them venture out and risk injury. We cannot reschedule before the NovEMBER 15th, which is the deadline for applying for Medicare Part D. If you have any questions about the Medicare Part D plan as it applies to us, we suggest that you call Liz Jeffrey at 631-285-8047 directly. Also, you can call NYSHIP in Albany and speak with a Kathy O’Connell (1-800-833-4344). This is our health insurance carrier in which MCCSD is a participating agency. You should have received a letter from NYSHIP in June that began with:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:>
NEW MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG BENEFITS
AND THE NEW YORK STATE HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM
This letter explains what you need to know and is called a “credible coverage letter.” The letter allows you to enter the Medicare Part D plan later on, without penalty, if you decide to change carriers because you found better coverage. Hold on to the letter. Any questions at all should be directed to Liz Jeffrey or NYSHIP at the above phone numbers. No one here “at home” is an insurance specialist and we cannot answer your questions as to what you should do. You should also be aware that Middle Country School District receives a subsidy from the federal government for any one who stays in the district plan. This incentive encourages the District to continue our coverage as it is now. NYSHISP states in that letter that only those who are eligible for “Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy” should consider enrolling in Medicare Part D. Again, any questions please call Kathy of Liz. You can also log on to www.medicare.gov as per Liz. More information is forthcoming from NYSHIP so look for it and read everything.
Our Board has an opening for a Trustee position and we are looking for volunteers. If you feel you can become part of this growing organization please call Michael Daly at 631-476-1317.
Enclosed is our Holiday Luncheon registration form. Please fill out as soon as possible and mail it back to Ruth Greenberg at 12 Shamrock Lane, Centereach, NY. 11720 with your $20.00. You should also know that the Association has been subsidizing these luncheons for about 3 years now. We try to keep the price down as much as we can. Hope to see you all there on December 6, 2005.
The Board of Directors of the MCRA is proposing a revision of the Constitution. A copy of that revision is now available on our website. Members are asked to review this proposed document in order to be better informed when the vote takes place in June, 2005.
Membership is asked to suggest topics for or speakers to be invited to our monthly meetings. Please call Michael with any suggestion. Some members have mentioned a problem getting access to our website. Please know that when Michael is working on the website, it is not accessible.
