NEWS FROM HOME: NOVEMBER, 2005

Where everyday is Friday.

... Our October 25, 2005 meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather. Hurricane Wilma and Alpha combined along the Atlantic Coast to cause dangerous winds and high tides along the eastern seaboard effecting Long Island. Since many of our members live in low-lying areas, we decided it was too dangerous to have them venture out and risk injury. The inclusive deadline for applying for Medicare Part D is November 15th. 2005 : May 15th, 2006. Liz Jeffrey will be with us at our November 22, 2005 meeting to answer questions any one may have about the Medicare Part D Plan. Should anyone be unable to attend our the November 22 meeting, we suggest they call call Liz Jeffrey directly at 631-285-8047 with their questions.

... One can also call NYSHIP in Albany and speak with a Kathy O’Connell (1-800-833-4344). NYSHIP is our health insurance carrier with MCCSD as a participating agency. Everyone should have received a letter from NYSHIP in June that began with:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

NEW MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG BENEFITS

AND THE NEW YORK STATE HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM

... This letter explains what one needs to know and is called a “credible coverage letter”. The letter allows you to enter the Medicare Part D plan later on, without penalty, if you decide to change carriers because you found better coverage. Hold on to the letter. Any questions at all should be directed to Liz Jeffrey or NYSHIP at the above phone numbers. No one here “at home” is an insurance specialist or can answer your questions as to what you should do. You should also be aware that Middle Country School District receives a subsidy from the federal government for any one who stays in the district plan. This incentive encourages the District to continue our coverage as it is now.

... NYSHIP states in that letter that only those who are eligible for “Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy” should consider enrolling in Medicare Part D. Again, any questions please call Kathy or Liz. You can also log on to http://www.medicare.gov as per Liz.

... More information will be forth coming from NYSHIP so look for it and read everything.

There is a change in our e-mail address as folows:
