Icon In The Address Bar

Get Icons Here

If you do not see the above little computer icon, your browser does not support .ico files.

T he above little icon is something that we have received many questions on. If you look in the address bar you will see the little icon which is not the IE default. Where can I find it? How do I add one to my site? Well, look no further. If you want to get one in many styles, just follow either of the two below links that have the little icons.

W e have tested the code in IE5.5, IE6, Opera7.23, Netscape4.08 and Netscape7.02. This script worked well in all platforms with the exception of Netscape4.08 where it will "Not" work.

I f by chance the "icon" is not in your address bar then place your cursor over the default icon and hold the left mouse button down. Also with your finger hold and press "Shift" on you keyboard. Then drag the default icon down to anywhere on the page and release. This will refresh the "icon" and you will see it in the address bar.

O ne last note is if you are using an editor such as "Angelfire" that has a "Basic" and "Advanced" editor, you need to be in the "Advanced" editor and edit the page with pure HTML. The reason being with editors such as "Angelfire" the "Basic" editor text box is in the <BODY> section of your document and the one line code needs to be pasted on top of the <TITLE> in the <HEAD> section.

Example Of An HTML Tag For Icon

<html>
<head>
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="URL To Your Icon/name of icon.ico">
<title>Your Title Here</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#ba55dc" link="#ffa500" alink="#ffff00" vlink="#ffa500">
<basefont size="3">

O n a final note. When you upload your little icon, it must be in the .ico format for it to work!

G o ahead and right click anywhere on the page and when the box opens click on "Create Shortcut". Then look on your desktop and see the "icon" instead of the default IE icon. This also works when you add to favorites. If you need any assistance with this, feel free to contact us.
