Nicholas being a young, talented, and gorgeous actor does not take fame to his head. He keeps his cool by staying down-to-earth and being extremely sweet. Nicky makes time for his fans and make sure each and everyone of them gets a little attention from him.
Many Nicky fans may or may not know this, but his dreams [as a child] was not becoming an actor. His dream was to become a professional baseball player (his dreams were crushed after an arm injury, however) and/or a doctor. Nicky had once said that "Acting is something I just 'fell into.'" However, he had also said that he always had that "need" to entertain people.
Xander Harris is the character that Nicholas is most known for. He does such an amazing job that some people actually think Nick IS Xander, but that is false. Where Xander was witty, outgoing, and didn't care what others thought in highschool - Nicholas was not. In fact, he was quite shy and kept to himself. He once said in an article he kept to himself to "prevent mortification." Mortification from what? Nicky had a horrible stutter since the young age of 7. He said that he had actually felt when it was coming on and would not talk. Having this stutter made Nick sort of shy away from people. In a "YM" article Nick said "When my gawky stage hit.. it hit HARD." Nicholas, at times, felt as if people - other than his family - judged him harshley.
Instead of things getting better, times actually grew a bit darker for Nick. Not only was he batteling his stutter, but he was having a rough time financially as well.
"I was having to scrounge nickels and dimes under my bed in order to buy a burrito. My girlfriend had just left me for my best friend . . . I was working as a waiter and I'd start to cry. I'd go outside and start bawling, then pull myself together and go back."
Sitting in his backyard one afternoon, Nicholas found himself talking to God. He had asked "What can I do??" Immediately acting came to mind. He was worried about his stutter, however. So, gradually Nicky slowed his speech down and used tongue twisters to help him overcome his stutter.
Success happened when he heard a show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was going to be made. He had went to the studios and auditioned for the role of "Xander Harris." As he recalls, a couple of days after the audition, at about eleven o'clock in the morning, he received a phone call saying he won the part.
Before landing the part as Xander, Nicholas did several different things. Such as, commercials, small television parts, and theatrical plays, as well!
As time grew on Nicholas decide to advance from television shows to movies. He has starred in (and is the executive producer) of "Demon Island" and was the star of "Psycho Beach Party."
Nick also is opening a production studio entitled "Frog Eye Sky Productions." In which I wish him the best of luck and success on!
On September 1st, 2001 Nicholas married his long-time girlfriend, Tressa di Figlia.
Also Nicholas, for the second year in the row, is the official spokesperson for Stuttering Foundation of America. Nick said that, "I would do it every year if they ask me, because stuttering is a very lonely place to be."
As you read, Nicholas didn't get anything handed to him on a silver platter. He had to overcome a lot in life to get happiness. For all that he has been through, for all that he has done, he deserves all of the good things that is coming to him and more.
Nicholas' advice to fans is: "I just kind of developed my sense of humor through a life full of ups and down. You just have to learn how to laugh at life and not take it so seriously. Never lose the inner child in you. And remember, there's nothing that you can't do. If you want to do it, you've got to do it."
In conclusion to this biography I would like to leave you with one of my favorite Nicholas quotes. I beleive it sums his kindness and sweetness right up: "I want people to say, 'Nicholas Brendon, he's supposedly the nicest guy in the world.' I want to do good work, but more than that, I want to stay a good human being. Thats more important than any character I play."
