Your Natural Resource
Hay House 2005 4-CD set ISBN #1-4019-0529-3 Caroline Myss can be described in many ways: intuitive practitioner, teacher, pioneer in the field of energy medicine and human consciousness, medical intuitive, and author ("Healing Cards" card deck, as well as the books "Anatomy of the Spirit", "Why People Don't Heal, and How They Can", and "Sacred Contracts"). "Intuitive Power" is a set of four CD's taken from one of her live lectures. The focus of "Intuitive Power" is that of teaching us to connect with our own intuition for health, healing, and life guidance. Myss accomplishes this through an extended conversation with the audience (you never feel that you are being lectured, not once!), story, personal anecdotes, recognition of archetypes, and humor - a large dose of humor! Myss begins by making an interesting point - that here in America we have merged our spiritual and our intuitive lives. Our occupations have become "callings", and we are protected from failure by God. We have an over-reliance on the tools of the New Age - meditation, prayer, "OHMing", candles, etc. While making use of any, or all, of these tools of empowerment are not inherently bad, thinking that they will solve all of our problems is! We do not have a good understanding of what a sacred contract is all about. Here Myss describes part of the process of writing her book "Sacred Contracts", and how the archetypal forces became very real, and very overpowering, in her home. Myss presented the question: "Why are we moved intuitively to help people at times, and why are we moved not to help people at other times?" What are the consequences of our becoming intuitive? Do we recognize our ability to raise the vulnerability of another person? The intuitive path is a journey of learning to work in a conscious manner. The irony is - we are working hard to develop that which comes naturally! We need to ask ourselves questions, such as: "What are we looking for?" "What do we want?" "Where are we going?" The American ideal is that the mystery of who we are is something that we need to solve. That there must be an answer there somewhere. In reality, the nature of the intuitive life is the nature of the unknown. We fear the unknown, and we often fear being intuitive. Myss goes into three levels of intuition, with each level accepting more of the intuitive process. There are safety nets on the path of becoming. We need to allow our internal world to expand, without fear of the intuitive process. The not so secret "secret" here is that we cannot limit what we intuit. When we fully open to our intuition, it is on duty 24/7. We will receive information at any time, in any place, and we need to learn to accept that. The intuitive life is a synchronistic life, and the intuitive journey is one of accepting divine guidance. Pay attention to what has power over you. Pay attention to how you sabotage yourself. At this point, Myss presents an exercise for the audience: "Ask yourself: What would your life be like if you became intuitively more alert?" We cannot stop energetic (intuitive) information from coming in. We need to pay attention to signals from the outside world. How do we tell the difference from our own thoughts and true intuition? Our own thoughts are felt in our mind, and in our gut. And they are fleeting. True intuition is felt in the body, in the stomach, as a sensory perception. True intuition is relentless, and cannot be silenced. Myss did an excellent discussion of how we scan other people for data. And we all do this, all the time. It is a protective mechanism, and no one had to teach us how to do it. It is a natural occurrence. When we meet someone, we automatically begin scanning them. Whether we realize it or not, we are scanning from the 7th chakra on up, and we are doing an intuitive reading. Think about it - when you walk away from meeting (or interacting) with a person, you have all kinds of impressions about them. These are intuitive impressions. We need to observe ourselves in all situations, and look at where and when we are losing power. Any time our thoughts are focused elsewhere, part of our energy is focused there also. We have essentially "drained" ourselves of that much energy. If we develop a sense of how much of us remains in our body, energetically, we also have a sense of how much of us is NOT there. The object of health is to contain your energy within yourself. Myss advises that when we get up int he morning, we pay attention to where we are, and where our thoughts are. When we do not act on our intuitive thoughts, we lose power. When we act on our intuitive thoughts, we gain power. We need to agree to deal with the consequences of the decisions that we make in our lives. The nature of contracts is a two-way deal: both sides are giving, and both sides are receiving. What stops you from living a (high risk) spiritual life? Only yourself! The way of the spiritual life is the way of empowerment. Be honest with yourself and about yourself. "What is the real reason why I want to do what I want to do, or why I want to say what I want to say?" Intuition is our inner guide, one that works non-stop. There are prayers of protection in all religions, and they are there for a purpose. What do we need protection from? Energetic patterns. These may be patterns dealing with unfinished business from childhood, from relationships, or from any number of things. While specific to each individual, these patterns are also part of the universal consciousness of humankind. As such, they are referred to as archetypal patterns. We need to recognize these archetypal patterns in our lives, and learn to work with them. As Myss points out - we all have intuitive gifts. The real magic starts when we learn to trust in them. Through our chakras and our body's subtle energy system, we can truly be proactive in maintaining our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. When we understand these forces, we will be able to recognize, and live, the sacred contracts in our lives. I found these CD's to be well done, and very thought provoking. They could be worked with on an individual basis, or in a group setting. Each time they are listened to, new information, new wisdom surfaces. I highly recommend "Intuitive Power" for anyone who is willing to work on themselves, willing to face their fears, and willing to grow personally and spiritually.
