- A recent release of the entire Pittsburgh Lovesexy show. Excellent,
stereo audience recording of what must be arguably, the best show of the
tour. Rare '88 promo shot of Prince on cover from the recent 'Hits'
promo poster tells me that whomever was behind the making of this set
knew what they were doing. Not an essential, but close. That says a lot
for an audience recording of a tour show.
This Is my Night (1CD)
Aftershow at DNA Lounge/San Francisco, 12.Apr.93
- Label
- Kiss The Stone - KTS 229
- Review
- Grade: A+
- An aftershow from San Francisco April'93. The soundquality is very
varying throughout the show, but it's in stereo. Get it.
- OK sound quality, great instrumental tracks
- Prince seems to have caught a cold, he sings with a rather h arsh
voice. Soundquality is Good. It's with an audience, sometimes loudly
inter fering.
- Another great soundboard aftershow, this time of the 4/12/93 DNA
Lounge show in San Francisco. KTS once again provides sparkling
packaging with their releases, and this is no exception. Besides being
the only Act I aftershow in circulation, the sound quality here is
great. Not as good quality as 'Small Club', but still very enjoyable.
The rare live versions of 'Sacrifice of Victor' and 'Papa' alone make
this release more than worth the price.
- I've seen a few people lately talking about how great the boot disc
"This Is My Night" sounds. Is there, by any chance, more than one
version of this boot, because the one I've got sounds pretty bad! The
liner notes claim it's a digital soundboard recording, but that's a
blatant lie; it's obviously an audience recording, and even if it
started off digital, it went through _several_ analog generations before
it made it to CD. Are there copies of this aftershow (San Francisco,
12/4/93) that actually sound like a board tape? If so I'd like to
upgrade.
- I agree. The version I have was put out by "Kiss The Stone" (who
normally have a great track record) and the sound quality sucks. I'm
interested 2 know if there is a better copy also. Anyone....?
- This is in response to the comments regarding the 'This is My
Night' bootleg CD. Every tape of the DNA show that I've listened to is
unmistakably a soundboard recording. This includes the 'This is My
Night' CD that I've listed in my essay as an essential disc to own. The
best way to decipher an audience recording from a soundboard one is not
by how clear you hear Prince but instead by listening to the audience in
the background. And yes KTS has a wonderful track record for their
releases but I don't think that the quality of this CD sucks by any
stretch. Granted it is not up to par with 'Small Club' or 'Welcome 2 the
Beautiful Experience' but it is still a very good recording, superior to
nearly any audience recording of the show that could ever exist. Just
because it's a soundboard recording, it doesn't always necessitate
'perfect' sound reproduction.

- SOURCE: all live material are audience recordings. Studio is

- OVERALL SOUND QUALITY : Live songs are VG, studio varies from
VG/EX-
- COMMENTS : Strange, incohesive mixture of newer material. I don't
like live audience recordings mixed in with studio material. Most of the
unreleased studio material has already been available on other boots
with similar quality. The inclusion of the 'Gold Nigga ' songs is
annoying.
- RECOMMENDATION : Nice packaging and this looks like an honest
attempt to put out a quality set of material. Sound quality is fine,
but this one is still borderline. A serious collector who already has
the studio stuff on CD will not need this. New collectors should be able
to find better CD's elsewhere.

- Review by Dazeofwild@aol.com
- Apart from one warmup gig at Glam Slam Minneapolis (which I was
fortunate enough to attend) the Diamonds & Pearls tour never touched
the states. It's ashame too because much like the Lovesexy tour it was
a show that was much more exciting when seen rather than just heard. A
true spectacle that supposedly obliterated your senses and kind of left
the music itself in the background. Perhaps this is why all of the
Diamonds and Pearls tour concert tapes we've ('we' are the people who
didn't get to see the tour) listened to have sounded rather bland.
Very few of the songs on the tapes surpassed their studio couterparts
which is rare for a Prince tour. Listening to this tour has never been
a favorite pastime of mine. It showed no musical or creative growth for
Prince at this stage of his career. Sure the show was probably a delight
to see but was he really taking any chances here musically?? No. All of
the best songs from D & P album splattered with the crowd pleasing
oldies. This disc set captures the first soundboard recording from the
tour. The sound quality is a vast improvement over the plethora of
audience recordings available (with the exception of the outstanding
Stagetronic disc set
of the 5/28/92 Rotterdam show). The tour can be heard here in a better
light than ever before. While still being mundane musically it still
displayed signs of brilliance. In particular are thrilling versions of
Delirious & Thieves in the Temple. Prince was
looking for a little financial boost with this album and tour. He
probably got it but in return lost a little of his musical respect.
The Diamonds & Pearls era just came and went. Nothing about this
era plastered our brains like Sign O' The Times, 1999 & Purple
Rain. Sound quality here is excellent. Not quite
City Lights
standards but still very enjoyable. Packaging is quite nice with several
different shots from the tour in his yellow canary outfit. The bonus
track Erotic City '92 is a very good remix. Actually worth
listening to more than once.
- Recommendation
- No soundboard show has ever appeared from the D & P tour
until now. A must have for that reason alone since sound and packaging
complement each other here nicely. This disc set now gives us a
soundboard show of every tour from 1980 to 1992 available on CD.

- This features the finest packaging of all of the Moonraker reissues.
Beautifully designed cover makes this look scarily official. Nice
D & P tour photos inside are included along with dates of the entire
tour and lyrics to the title track.
The previous release of this show (also entitled
Thunder) was released last
year. The sound quality on the Moonraker release far outshines the
previous release, even to a greater extent that I had hoped. This
release exceeded my expectations moreso than any of the other Moonraker
reissues that I've reviewed. That doesn't necessarily mean that this is
my favorite show but it certainly was the most pleasant surprise of the
bunch. This is near perfect stereo sound unlike its mono predecessor.
Definitely on target (as Peter Berger previously noted) with the quality
of the Studio Nights
releases. It's surprising how much better this tour sounds when listened
to in stereo soundboard quality.
This show and tour is the least spontaneous and interesting of his
career. The true unique highlights were too few and far between. I get
the impression that this tour was a money making tour without a message,
which makes for a bad mix. The Lovesexy tour may have been similar in
many ways but at least it had a particular message. The Act II tour also
seemed to be designed to make money but at least it brought back some
real classics for Prince to tear up (The Cross,
Sign O' the Times, etc..). The D & P tour did not and for
this reason is one of the least appealing to listen to. Two musical
highlights here stick out in this show; a great revision of
Delirious and the tremendous acoustic reworking of
Thieves in the Temple. The inclusion of Rosie Gaines is always a
highlight of this tour just like Boni Boyer was on the Lovesexy tour. In
my opinion neither of these two women were featured prominently enough
for my liking. This is an average show for this tour and a below average
show for his career. Thank goodness for the sound quality and packaging
here, its salvaging any interest I have left in this tour.
- Recommendation
- Sound quality makes this a must and it looks great. The tour
mysteriously becomes enjoyable when listened to with this quality.

- Moonraker continues onward and upward with an attractive release from
the Nude tour of the August 31st show at the Tokyo Dome in 1990. The
only previous release of this show that I've ever listened to on disc
was In Japan.
This reissue easily surpasses the quality of that release in all
aspects.
Sound quality is wonderful as expected and the show and tour was perhaps
underrated when listened to closely. This copy of the show is about 98%
complete with a negligible amount missing. The show and tour had its
downside though, in particular the rather weak track listing
(Batdance, Partyman) and some songs that we've never
needed to hear live again (When Doves Cry, Kiss,
Housequake, 1999, Purple Rain). Tracks such as
The Question of U, Alphabet St. and
Ain't No Way help make this show exciting, which is no more
apparent than in the sizzling version of Bambi. Missing from
this particular show is the exciting improvised funk versions of
Controversy that helped break the tour from the monotony it
suffered from later on. It's so unfortunate that Prince's tours from
1984 and on have been so preprogrammed to a fixed medley of songs
somewherein the show. I can think of no tour since the 1999
tour that doesn't suffer from this.
The packaging is once again on par with the best. Beautiful photos with
a complete itinerary of the tour in a 10 page booklet. It would've been
nice to see a double CD release here with disc 2 containing an excellent
copy (which must exist somewhere) the Spanish TV broadcast of the show
on 7/29/90 in La Coruna, Spain. Maybe an improved copy of that show is
in the works because it would be worth the time.
- Recommendation
- I hate to be redundant but... as of right now this is easily the
definitive CD release of the Nude tour. A must.

Audience recordings with very little noise from the audience. Along with
the Budokan 3CD and
The Gold Ex-Prince
I've heard now three complete Japan gigs (Jan.11/16/17) plus various
songs from other concerts (Jan.8/9/13) and still I can't name a
favourite show. Each one has it's highlights but overall they're quite
equal. So if you already have
Budokan I'd not recommend this
release. The package is nice but nothing special. Limited Ed. of 1000.
