It seems as though every time we get a nice day for racing, we pay for it by having threatening weather the next race night. Today dawned clear and cool, but during the afternoon the clouds came up and by the time track packing was underway, it appeared as though we might have out first rain-out of the season. However, no rain fell and and once again there was excellent racing in all classes. Derek Fralin had a clean sweep in the #1X Fralin Racing Malibu as he won the second heat, the Cash Dash and the A Feature in the Factory Stock class. Fralin was followed by Tom Lampe in the #39 Jet Racing Olds and Jeff Watts in the #66 Ford. In the Pro-Am class, Lance Borgman redeemed himself as he drove his #76 Camaro to a win in the A Feature. Last week, he led most of the race, only to fall out with a lap and a half left with clutch problems. He was followed by Kyle Halsey in the Y11 Halsey Motorsports Camaro, the #69 of Paul Huss, the #2A of Bill Wood and the #22 of Hugh Carmichael. In the IMCA Modifieds, Kevin Larkins took his #4X Speedway Motors Modified home with a win for the 2nd week in a row. Greg Metz led from the third lap when early leader Johnny Saathoff dropped out. Larkins took the lead with two laps to go, and was closely followed by Metz, Mike Heideman, Rich Erb and Gary Saathoff. In the first Modified heat, Tom Vanover got into the wall coming off turn 4 and flipped into the fence, coming to a rest on his top in front of the north grandstands. Tom was not hurt but his car was.
It seems as though we are finally starting to get our program together as the #6X R & R Racing Monte Carlo made the A Feature for the first time this season!! A heavy track seemed to help out in the first heat race as the top 4 cars seemed to run away from the rest of the pack. At the drop of the green, Jason hot-footed it around the track from his outside pole starting position. After leading for the first four laps, Jason was passed by a flying Dale Evers in Dan Nelson's #11 Harms Farms Monte Carlo. Coming from his 9th starting position, Bob Zoubek in the #20Z Monte Carlo put heavy pressure on Jason but was not able to pass. They ran side by side a couple of times, but at the line, Jason took home a second place and had qualified for his first A Feature. We also had the chance to run in the cash dash, which Derek Fralin won. Jason and Jeff Watts in the #66 Ford ran side by side for the entire race until Watts finally got by on the 5th lap to take second. Starting on the pole in the A Feature, Jason immediately jumped into the lead for the first four laps. A solid tap in the right rear in turn four almost sent him spinning, but he was able to gather it back up and stay in second place. Eventually the rest of the pack began to go by and we finished in 11th place. Looks like we'll have a lot of body work to do this week, but I guess that's the price you pay for being in the A Feature!
