Of the End
The girl lifts her head up and looks to the opening door and sees Kevin
standing in it. “Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude,” Kevin says as
he starts to leave the room.
“There’s no intrusion,” the nun says, not even looking up at Kevin.
“Sister Janet look,” the girl says. “God did answer my prayer.”
The nun looks up at Kevin in astonishment. Kevin walks toward the little
girl and smiles gently; she is so thin that Kevin is scared to ask what the
problem with her is. He pushes his fear and discomfort aside. He looks down
gently at the little girl. The nun whispers something to the little girl, who
smiles with a nod. Then the girl’s watcher gets up and leaves the room
“Hi,” he says as he sits down in another chair beside the little
girl’s bed.
“Hello,” she replies, her face beaming with happiness.
“What’s your name?” Kevin asks sweetly.
“My name is Ann,” she says.
“Really?” Kevin asks her gently.
“Yes. Why does that seem strange to you?” the girl asks.
“That’s my mother’s name,” he says.
“Oh,” the little girl says with wide eyes.
“How old are you, Ann?” Kevin asks.
“I’m almost seven,” she replies sadly.
“What happened?” Kevin asks gently.
“Cancer,” the girl replies.
Kevin is expecting such an answer, but it still catches him in a painful
spot. A lone tear forms in his eye and slides down his cheek. He closes his eyes
for a moment to let it fall, he feels a tiny and gentle hand reach up and softly
brush it away. He looks and sees that it is Ann’s hand that does this act of
love.
“Why do you cry?” she asks.
“You’re so young,” Kevin says.
“Yes, I am young, but I will be going home soon,” she says.
“Really?” Kevin asks with some happiness in his voice.
“Yes,” she says. “I’ll be with my father,” she says.
“Is your father at work?” he asks.
“Yes,” she says.
“But he comes to see you, doesn’t he?” Kevin asks.
“My father is always watching over me,” she says. “He is the one
who takes the pain away,” she says. “He’s the one that is going to cure
me.”
“Oh, is he a doctor?” Kevin asks.
“Yes,” Ann says. “He is the one who teaches me, he and my brother
are the ones who save me.”
“When will you be going home?” Kevin asks the little child.
“Um, sometime today, I think,” Ann replies.
“Really, that soon? That’s terrific,” Kevin says. “Did your
doctor come in and tell you that you’d be leaving today?”
“Nope, an older man and a young lady did,” she says.
This confuses Kevin slightly, so he decides to change the subject,
“Ann, why don’t you and I do something together.”
“What should we do?” she asks.
“What would you like to do?” Kevin asks.
“Would you hold me close to you, please?” she asks.
“Sure,” he says.
“Okay,” she agrees. Kevin holds Ann close to himself and she snuggles
right up against him. He loves the feel of her tiny body up against his own
body, he wishes that he could become a father and have a child who does this to
him all the time. She drifts off to sleep in his arms. A nurse comes in with
several needles and tubes to draw the girl’s blood with. Kevin knows how to
hold a child who needs their blood drawn. He holds her carefully and she
doesn’t wake as her blood is drawn. A half an hour later, the nurse comes back
in with more tubes to collect blood.
“What’s the matter?” Kevin asks her.
“More tests have been ordered, they think there was a mix up at the
lab,” she whispers as the child is still sleeping peacefully in Kevin’s
arms. She wakes as the needle is coming out of her arm.
“What’s going on?” she asks.
“It’s okay, Ann, just some routine blood-work,” Kevin says as he
holds her tightly in his arms.
“Okay,” she says, somewhat uncertainly.
“Hey, Ann, everything’s going to be fine,” Kevin says as he gives
her an extra tight hug.
“If you say so,” she says as she falls asleep in Kevin’s arms
again. He is grateful that she seems so comfortable with him. The nun who was
with Ann when Kevin showed up comes back into the room with a doctor and a
nurse; she is smiling as she enters the room. She takes Ann from Kevin’s arms
and wakes the little girl very gently.
“What is it Sister Janet? I was just talking to Father,” she says.
“Why did you wake me?”
“The cancer, it’s gone,” she says.
“I could have told you that,” Ann says as she turns to Kevin and hugs
him as tightly as she can.
“Did I just miss something?” Kevin asks.
“Your father says hello, and that he is so proud of all that you have
done with your life. He also told me to tell you that you made the right
decision to marry Kala,” Ann says. “And, when you see him, please tell Howie
that his sister says hello, and that she knows that he tried to see her before
she left, and that she’s proud of him for keeping his life moving forward and
that she knows he loves her.”
“Okay, now this is getting really out of control,” Kevin says. “I
thought you had been talking to your father,” he says.
“Whenever I said my father, I meant God, when I said my brother I meant
Jesus,” she says. When I said I was going home, I meant I was going to die and
be with God again, but he has chosen to spare me from death, citing that my
parents need me more down here than he needs me up there for the time being,”
she says.
“So, the old man and young lady,” he starts.
“Were your father and Howie’s sister, although, when they first came
I wasn’t sure of who they were other than angels,” she says.
“Well, you’re going to be okay now,” Kevin says.
“Thank you for helping me through this,” she says.
“You’re welcome Ann,” Kevin says as he takes the little girl up
into his arms again for a final hug and then lays her back into her bed.
“Do you have to leave now?” she asks.
“Well, not at the moment, I can stay for a little bit longer,” Kevin
says.
“No, I can’t be selfish,” she says. “You clearly have someone
that you’re worried about.” Kevin hugs her and kisses her cheeks.
“I’m glad that you’re okay, Ann,” he says to her.
“Me too,” she says.
Sister Janet follows him out into the hall. “Thank you so much for
coming and seeing her, Sir,” the nun says.
“Tell me about Ann, please,” Kevin asks her.
“She’s an orphan,” the nun says.
“Is she able to be adopted?” Kevin asks.
“Well, yes, both of her parents died,” she says. “Her only other
living relative, an aunt, died a few months after her parents.”
“Oh, the poor girl,” Kevin says as he looks back in on the little
girl. “Is anyone looking to adopt her?” Kevin asks.
“No, because no one thought she would come through the cancer alive, no
family wanted to set themselves up for inevitable heartbreak, even if it meant
giving a little girl love through her final days,” she says.
“I can understand that completely, but I still wish that I didn’t
have to,” he says. “Where is she kept most of the time?” Kevin asks.
“Why do you ask?” Sister Janet asks.
“She’s such a wonderful little girl, I’d love to have her as my
own,” he says.
“I see,” the sister says.
“But, my wife is badly injured right now, she couldn’t handle a
little girl, even one as wonderful as Ann,” he says. “Still, my brother may
be looking to adopt another child. Here’s my attorney’s number, will you
please call him and get some arrangements made for my wife to meet her?” he
asks.
“Certainly,” the sister says.
Kevin makes his way back to Kala’s room, thrilled that he’s found
such a wonderful little girl, he knows that if Kala doesn’t want Ann then his
older brother and his wife with their multiple children certainly will. That’s
when he sees his wife again, he sees her thin body lying in bed; its position
hasn’t changed since his last visit. As he looks at her he knows that she’ll
take months to heal physically and emotionally. She doesn’t need to be turned
into an instant mother right now. She’s going to need time. Kevin goes over to
look at some of the flowers that have arrived while he’s been gone. Then he
calls his attorney to inform him of what’s going on.

When I open my eyes I cannot figure out where I am. As I look around, and
see the white walls, the sterile environment, I assume that everything has gone
well and that I am now in a hospital. I try to get up, but I feel like a truck
or something even worse has hit me. All my muscles ache and my head is killing
me. It occurs to me that this is the first time that I have felt a constant and
steady pain. Not knowing whom to call out for, and not seeing my husband
anywhere, I lay there awake for a few more minutes before I drift off to sleep
again.
It is some time later that I feel a presence in my room. I open my eyes
slightly and find that Kevin is by my side. “Kevin,” I say softly as I
nestle my cheek up against his big, warm hand.
“Oh, Kala,” Kevin says, he delicately takes my body into his arms.
“So, what’s been going on lately? How’s the tour?” I ask.
“The tour was called off as soon as you went missing, Honey,” Kevin
says.
“But, why?” I ask.
“It would have been very distressing for me to have to perform without
you around,” Kevin says.
“Oh, you’re such a darling,” I say as I sit up and hold him close.
“I love you so much, Kevin.”
“I love you too, Kala,” Kevin tells me as he kisses my hair.

Kala stays in the Maryland hospital for a week recovering from the shock
and her injuries. Her doctors request that she stay nearby for at least an extra
week, just for safety’s sake. A day or so after she is released from the
hospital, Kevin goes out for a little while and when he comes back he has a
beautiful little girl, with green eyes and pure blonde hair, in little gold
ringlets about her face with him.
“Kala, this is Ann, she’s seven years old, and,” Kevin stops dead
in the phrase when he sees that Kala has fallen to her knees and is holding Ann
tightly in her arms. He smiles as he looks down on the two of them. He joins
them after a moment and once the group hug ends he and Kala settle down and play
board games with Ann. Both Kevin and Kala are unhappy when Sister Janet comes to
pick the little girl up at the end of the day.
Kala and Kevin both fall hopelessly in
love with the little girl. However, both Kevin and Kala know that with Kala’s
injuries, and Kevin’s impending tour, that adopting a child isn’t a top
priority, nor is it a good idea for them just now. Yet something in Ann’s eyes
tugs on Kala’s heartstrings.
That night she wakes in a nightmare in which Kala sees that a horrid
family has adopted Ann. They make her work day and night, with no breaks, and
they are careless with her and her health, and she becomes ill again. She sees
Ann as being one of the many children that slips through the cracks in the child
welfare agency, and because she slipped through the safety net, she dies.

“NOOOO!” I scream as I sit bolt upright in bed, waking from the
fearful images in my head.
“Kala, Baby, what is it?” Kevin asks.
“I saw her,” I cry.
“Saw who, Honey?” Kevin asks.
“Saw Ann,” I cry.
“Oh, what was wrong?” Kevin asks.
“She had been adopted by a family, they worked her, nearly to death,
they didn’t take any kind of care of her at all,” I sob in my husband’s
arms.
“You really want that little girl, don’t you?” Kevin asks.
“I know that we don’t have the best life for raising a child, Kevin,
but I just love her so,” I say, calming slightly.
“Having her around all the time wouldn’t make you crazy?” Kevin
asks.
“Of course it will,” I say. “But show me a mother that doesn’t go
nuts occasionally from having kids. Besides, how bad could it be we will
outnumber her two to one.”
“Having that little girl will mean that much to you?” Kevin asks.
“Yes,” I say to him.
“I’ll call our lawyer tomorrow morning,” Kevin says.
Kevin and I snuggle up close and go back to sleep.

“Mom, Kala and I have found the most darling child!” Kevin tells her
as a way of opening up the conversation.
“Wait, let me guess, you and Kala want to adopt the little girl?”
Anne says.
“How’d you know?” Kevin asks.
“Just because you’re several hundred miles away and all grown up
doesn’t mean that I’m not still your mother, and I still know everything,”
she says. “What’s her name?”
“It’s Ann, actually,” he says.
“Okay, here’s what can be done, if you and Kala are really serious
about this, then while you two are on tour I’ll watch her for you,” she
says. “And provide a stable home for her until Kala gets her bearings back.”
“Really?” That’d be so wonderful, Mom,” Kevin says.
“I’ll be on the next plane up there and I’ll bring your lawyer
too,” she says.
“Thank you so much,” Kevin says.

Arrangements are made and finally, at the end of the week, in the second
week of June, Kevin and Kala are on their way down to Florida for a little
while, before the tour starts up. An excited Ann is accompanying them. She will
live with them for a week to see how it goes, and if she can stand the
lifestyle, then the adoption will proceed as planned.
For the first three days, all of the couple’s time and energy is thrown
into being with Ann and loving her up and showing her how great family life can
be. Then, as things start to calm down a little more, Kala will go to the office
for an hour or two during the day, and Kevin will have some time alone with Ann.
Then Kala will come home and Kevin will go to rehearsals, giving the girls some
time alone. Kevin and Kala guard Ann jealously, thankfully, the media is rather
respectful of them, and there are no major conflicts.
On the third to last day that Ann will be with the couple, the four other
guys ask if they may have her for the entire day, to hang out with her. AJ
promises not to corrupt, or frighten her, Nick promises no practical jokes of
any kind, Howie promises to be the voice of reason, and Brian promises, albeit
secretly, to spoil her rotten and undermine Howie, and the four girls promise to
keep the guys and in check as best they can and make them uphold their promises.
Kevin and Kala relent, so long as it’s all right with Ann, who happily agrees
to a day out with the other guys and their girls.
Kala goes off to work that day, and puts several hours in at the office;
Kevin goes out and buys some gifts for Kala. He loves Ann to bits, but he can
see that the strain of having a child is taking its toll on Kala. He knows that
she’ll never be able to keep this up. He doesn’t know what to do; he loves
both Ann and Kala. He wonders if it is merely the strain of going through the
trauma and then coming right into having a child that is making life so hard for
his wife. He knows that he has the obligation to protect Kala, even if it is
from her own self, and he feels as though he has an obligation to take care of
Ann as well. His family is coming up tomorrow to meet Ann. He knows that his
brother and his wife would dearly love another child, but he doesn’t even want
to think about it.
Tonight all he wants is a nice romantic evening for two. He has been hot
for Kala ever since she got a clean bill of health from the doctors in Maryland.
He knows that this will be the perfect night.

I get to my house and want to find Kevin; I am still struggling with the
ordeal that I have just gone through. I am also worried about how Kevin is
doing. I love Ann, but I realize that I just can’t keep this up, not with what
I’ve just gone through. I need time to heal, and Ann deserves better than
Kevin and I can give to her in the way of a stable home life. What kind of a
life would it be for a child, whose parents are almost always out on the road?
Kevin is too loving, too devoted, and too attached to leave us here in Florida,
he and I would miss each other too much. If only there were some way to love and
stay close to her without being her parents. I change out of my stockings and am
about to change into a completely different outfit, but I stop myself from doing
that when I hear the phone ring. It only rings once and so I figure that Kevin
must have gotten it.
I go downstairs to a room in the house that Kevin greatly admires. The
room is done up just like my father’s home office in the house in Maryland had
been. Now I use the room as my own office. That’s where I’ll find Kevin. I
stand in the doorway leaning against it slightly with my arms folder across my
chest I shake my head slightly and slowly with a smile as I see that the large
leather swivel chair has its back to me and I can hear my husband talking on the
phone to someone. He swivels back around in the chair and signals me to come
into the room. I go to go sit down, but he catches my attention and signals for
me to come over to the desk. I don’t know what he has in mind, but I do what
he has asks and rest against the desk. I notice that Kevin’s eyes never leave
my own and he doesn’t seem to be paying a great deal of attention to the
person that is on the other end.
A few minutes later, Kevin wraps up the call and hangs up the phone.
“You’re acting strangely, Kevin,” I comment.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
Kevin gets up from his chair and looks down at Kala. He has been hot for
her all day, and now that she is standing in front of him, he knows he can’t
wait any longer to have her. He puts his mouth up to her ear and whispers, “I
want you. Right here, right now.”
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
“Oh I get it now,” I say as I see the large bulge in Kevin’s jeans.
I stroke the massive lump and it continues to grow, I watch as Kevin throws his
head back and moans. I stand up and Kevin quickly removes my skirt and panties.
While Kevin is doing that, I undo Kevin’s jeans and push them, and his boxer
briefs down. I sit on the desk again, knowing that I don’t want to have sex,
but decide to remember my vows of putting Kevin before myself in all that I say
and do. So I push my problems out of my mind and take Kevin’s enlarged member
in my hand.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
The touch is too much this time. Kevin brings Kala’s bottom forward
just a little to allow him better access to her opening. Without wasting any
time, Kevin quickly thrusts deep within Kala. He remains still for a few
seconds, but he begins thrusting very quickly. Kala just wraps her legs around
Kevin and holds on for the ride. His need for release is obviously urgent,
because Kala has never known Kevin to be quite so quick. Kevin continues to hold
Kala tight as he continues to thrust; he thrusts one final time and moans her
name as he reaches his climax. Kevin spreads light butterfly kisses on her neck
and says, “I have needed that all day.”
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
“Well, I’m glad that I could help you,” I say to him as I kiss his
lips tenderly. But I turn my eyes away from him; Kevin places his finger under
my chin and brings me to look at him. Kevin really looks at me for the first
time since I’ve seen him this afternoon; I just know that he sees fear in my
eyes. He takes my hand and leads me up to our room. Kevin draws a lukewarm bath
for me. He comes back into the bedroom and leads me into the bathroom, he bathes
me, and he is so tender about everything and throughout the rest of the day he
keeps gently trying to find out what the problem is. After the bath I come clean
to him.
“I don’t know if I can do this,” I tell him.
“What do you mean?” he asks.
“I mean I don’t know if I can be a mother to Ann, I love her to bits,
but Kevin, what kind of a life could we offer her?” I ask, nearly in tears.
“Oh, Kala,” Kevin comes over and just holds me close. “I’ve been
thinking about that too. I adore the little girl, but with me on the road so
much, she’d only have a mother, but I’d hate it if you two weren’t with me
all of the time,” he says.
“I know, but we couldn’t take her on the road with us, she needs a
stable home environment, she would need kids, and the media would just have a
field day with her, she’d be impossible to protect fully,” I say.
“I know, but I don’t want to lose her,” Kevin says.
“Neither do I, Kevin, neither do I,” I tell him.
“You know, I’ve been thinking, my brother and his wife have been
trying to have another child for so long, do you think that they’d sort of
co-parent Ann with us?” Kevin asks.
“What do you mean?” I ask him.
“I mean, when you and I went on the road Ann would go and live with
them and their other three kids. Their neighborhood is full of kids just around
Ann’s age,” Kevin says.
“So, when we came home, then Ann would live with us,” I say, getting
the idea.
“Exactly,” Kevin says.
“But, wouldn’t that confuse her? I mean, don’t you think that
she’d wonder at being sent away to live with another couple for so many months
out of a year?” I ask. “Then we run into the problems of what she should
call whom. I mean, with your plan, the only known title would go to your mother
as Grandmother,” I say.
“We’ll talk it over with Ann and my brother and his wife tomorrow,”
Kevin says.
“All right, but I just wish that there were some way to give her a more
stable environment,” I say.
“I know, but at least this way she will have the best of both
worlds,” Kevin says.
“If the legal system will allow it,” I say.
“I don’t see where they’d have a problem, so long as the three
parties didn’t have a problem with it,” Kevin says.
“Perhaps you’re right,” I say to him.
“Come on, let’s have dinner and then, we’ll have some fun,” Kevin
says.
“All right,” I say.

The rest of the night goes smoothly for the couple. Later that evening,
while Kala is washing her hair, Kevin slips the nightgown he bought for her into
the bathroom. He hopes that she likes it; it took him a while to find one that
he thought would be good for her. It’s silk, magenta silk, short-skirted, with
a slit up her thigh, and spaghetti straps. He knew when he saw it that she’d
look great in it, the fact that it came with panties to match, as well as
slippers and a bathrobe were mere bonuses to him.

I finish doing my hair before I notice the slippers, panties, nightgown
and bathrobe on the counter of the bathroom. I put them on and walk out into the
bedroom. I only have an instant to see that solely candles illuminated the room.
I have a mere instant as the next instant Kevin has cupped my head in one hand
and is thoroughly invading my mouth, by running his tongue over my lips and
gums. Soon I am oblivious of everything but my dear sweet husband and the
thought of how good tonight will be for us. We go and lie down on the bed as we
continue to kiss one another. Frantic, Kevin grabs the end of the gown and pulls
it off over my head in one swift yank. I smile cutely up at him and dance
my fingers over his naked back as he kisses my jaw and runs his mouth up to my
ear. He just takes his time as he nibbles on my sweet, little ear lobe.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
Just when Kevin is going to tell her that he’s not going to take her
this time, just pleasure her, no matter how much it makes him suffer, because he
understands that it is too soon for her after the trauma with Andrew. She gently
says his name, "Kevin."
He looks up, feeling like his life is flashing before his eyes. Her
dancing fingers settle behind his head and she smirks. Before he knows what is
happening she has sunk her fingers into his hair and is kissing his brains out. Murmuring
inanities against her soft skin he squirms out of his pants without Kala being
any the wiser. The feel of her bare skin against his fans the flames of the fire
inside of him hotter than he ever thought possible. His hand goes to her
silk panties and gently caresses her before he does anything else. She stops
kissing him and moans quietly as she enjoys the feeling of his fingers on her
body. He gently reaches up and removes the panties and continues to pleasure
Kala in that manner for several minutes, until he is certain that she wants
love.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
As he begins to enter her she gives a small squeal, so he stops, she
pulls away from him slightly and he looks at her.
“My darling, are you all right? Would you like this to stop?” he
asks, concerned for me
“No, Kevin, just give me a minute, I’ll be fine,” I say.
“My Darling Kala, what is it?” he asks.
“It’s just been so long,” she says. “And you are a very big
boy,” she whispers.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
This sends him out of his mind, he feels so blessed that I was be the
first, and will be the last and only man to have the beautiful creature now
lying beneath himself. “Fear not, my angel, I will make this feel amazing to
you,” he whispers to her. He takes things terribly slow with her, to keep her
fear and any possible discomfort at a minimum. She cries a bit when she feels
him enter her, and she bleeds slightly too. He stops and just kisses her; once
he has made her comfortable he begins kissing and gently pleasuring her again.
Once her arousal begins to grow for the second time that night, he slowly and
cautiously covers her body and positions himself at her opening, after he has
entered her fully, he can still feel her uncertainty, so he gives her some time
to adjust to the feeling. Shortly afterwards Kevin feels her relax in his arms.
He starts to kiss her all over again and gently moves in and out of her. Her
breathing picks up and he recognizes that her arousal is building perfectly when
he hears her start to call his name.
“Oh, Kevin, Kevin, Kevin,” she cries.
He finds that this is a great turn on for him and he thrusts harder and
faster, desperate to give her more pleasure. He reaches down and caresses her
gently, making her come closer and closer to the edge. Finally, he feels her
tighten around him and he allows myself to join her in the pleasure. When it is
over he lies beside her, but he keeps her in his arms and kisses her all over
her lips and face. Kevin is determined to remind her that this is what love is
supposed to feel like, he is resolved that he won’t leave her in doubt of the
sincerity of his love and attachment to her after the first physical love is
over. Finally she falls asleep, with her head resting on his chest and her long
blonde hair strewn over his shoulder, warming it. Her hand caresses his chest
lightly as she falls into a world of dreams. Once Kevin is sure that she is
sleeping, he too goes to sleep, after watching over his dearest love for a time.
