Basketball Season Remembered
UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi basketball team recently held their annual awards banquet. Rahim Lockhart was named team MVP and shared the Best Defensive Player award with Jason Flanigan. Pint-sized Jason Harrison won the awards for assists and free throw percentage.

The Rebels, led by Naismith Coach of the Year Rod Barnes, advanced to the sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament last year, which is quite a departure from their normal shocking first-round defeat.

The Rebels will have to repeat next year without superheroes Lockhart and Flanigan, although homeschool star Jonathan Loe gives the Rebels the number 1 rated recruiting class in the country.

Baseball Team Still Ranked (Hopefully)
UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The University of Mississippi Diamond Rebels have put the wraps on one of the most successful baseball seasons in history. The Rebs finished strongly, losing seven out of their last eight games.

Ole Miss closed out the regular season with a three game series against hated rival Mississippi State. The Rebels dropped two of three, and finished the year 1-3 against the rebuilding Bulldogs.

The Rebels have restored their rich baseball tradition under first-year coach and LSU transplant Mike Bianco. Thanks to Coach Bianco, the Rebels are not the same baseball program they've been in the past. In fact, the only thing that's stayed the same is that we still keep getting punked by Mississippi State.

Football Team Starts New Campaign
UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebel football program has announced their plans for promoting a Heisman campaign for the 2001 season.

The problem, however, is that they don't know which player to hype, er, campaign for. Joe Gunn returns as running back and is an odds-on favorite to lead the SEC and the nation in rushing, but sophomore Eli Manning will also be a force to be reckoned with.

The real solution will likely be to promote both players, since they are far and away the two best athletes in the SEC.

Vikings Pick Up Romaro Miller
UNIVERSITY, Miss. -- The Minnesota Vikings have signed Rebel legend Romaro Miller to a free agent contract. Miller was not selected in last month's NFL draft, although many less-talented QBs were taken.

Details of the contract were not released, but it is expected that the figures approach the six year, $62 million deal that Michael Vick signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Miller is expected to compete with Dante Culpepper for the starting job this fall.
