FOOTBALL HISTORY

Ole Miss boasts 29 bowl appearances, 17 bowl wins, six SEC championships, and three national championships.  The highest-level bowl the Rebels have played in over the last ten years is the Sanford Independence Bowl (twice).  All three national championships were shared, and none were recognized by the Associated Press, which is what it took to win the trophy.  Sure, the Rebs were voted national champions three times (1959, 1960, 1962), but they were by unofficial organizations like Dunkel, Sagarin, Billingsley, Berryman, and Litkenhaus.  All that does is allow them to "stake a claim" to the championship.  It's all moot though, because since integration, the Rebels have been nothing more than a blip on the NCAA football radar screen.

The very mention of Ole Miss and SEC Championship in the same sentence is usually met with laughter at the SEC football Media Days, especially in light of last year's 7-5 record after such lofty preseason expectations.  Everyone outside of Oxford knows the truth.  Those inside Oxford know, too, but they refuse to believe it, living off their "history."  Hotty Toddy!
