Kill II This - Glasgow 21 April 2000

I have seen this band quite a few times now, and I am not sure which I prefer, the large venues with hundreds packing in, all vibing to the music, or the small with the select crowd of die hard fans giving all they are worth. This gig falls into the second category, in one of my old stomping grounds (read rock nightclub) in Glasgow.

Supporting were Linea77 and Earthtone9. I didn't see them so I won't say too much, except I don't dig them that much, but that is personal taste for you. There is an argument that support bands are a bit of a waste of time. Yes I agree that sometimes you will find a gem, but mostly for me they are another excuse to keep you standing. Everyone else seemed to think they were quite good though.

Onto the main event. The Trinity banners were placed behind the stage (I am not sure if you can call 6 inches off the ground and a foot away from the barrier a stage, but never mind) and to much shouting our boys and gal came on. I was interested to hear how the new material would sound. First thoughts are - Oh. My. God. The new album is awesome, but live is really where it comes into its own. The choruses are perfect for mass moshing (like Figure of 8ight), or vitriolic shouting (God On Drugs) or just being plain funky (2 Tribes). It is definitely a harder sound than we are used to from this lot. The band as ever interact with their audience and make many silly poses, almost daring you to laugh along with them. Blending well with the older stuff from Deviate, you can't help but sing and shout and jump along. A decent sized set, but they seem to be gone as soon as they start - well you know what they say about time flying. I wonder if 'Crucified' will always be their closer though, I am hoping that one day one of the new tracks will take over.

To sum up, another roaring outing, even if the crowd wasn't as plentiful as it could have been. The new material is great stuff to work with, and as long as the band remember who they are and who got them there, their gigs will always be a riot.
