At June 28th Board of Education Meeting, Board Member, Kay Dougerthy asked to have the July 15th Board again discuss and make a decision on whether to have the 2nd Grade class in Wilton, moved to Kendall next year. Earlier Kathy Hefner of Wilton asked that since both the Wilton and Kendall classes were of approximate size (about one or two students difference) and since there would still be a need for two teachers it seemed more resonable to leave both classes where they were. Dougherty in her request for further consideration did not indicate that there had been any changes made from that first assesment. A parents committe of students involved was present at the earlier board meeting on this subject.
If you are concerned about this question let your School Board members
know and speak out at July 15 Board meeting when the Board requests

AN EDITORIAL COMMENTARY ON THE PRESENT STATE OF AFFAIRS IN THE EKW DISTRICT
EKW BORAD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS UNOFFICIALLY ASKED SUPT KEENAN TO HAVE A DETACHMENT REFERENDUM RESOLUTION PREPARED AND READY FOR PRESENTATION AT THE JULY 15th BOARD MEETING AT ELROY
Elroy Principle Tim McGowan indicated that there have been recent talks with TCI officials regarding the revised version of the three site configuration which was tabled in March.
The Annual School meeting will be held on August 23rd. The EKW Board must also consider a referendum to exceed the Revenue Levy sometime prior to Mid October.
The detachment people want first to have the School Board grant their petition for Detachment, but that failing they would then like to have the referendum, supposidly now being drafted by the District Superintendent upon the School Boards request, to be held prior to the November date required by State Statues.
In the meantime the 3 site configuration with K-6 at Wilton and Elroy and a 7-12 Middle/Highschool in Kendall will probably be taken off the table and reintroduced as a possible referendum. Chances of it being approved seem very unlikely at this time.
Then there is the referendum to exceed the Revenue Limits. Plus the fact that no matter how the referendums go the schools will continue to operate much the same, as they have in this past couple of years. With the likelyhood of more EKW students leaving and going to other district on the School Choice Plan
So the clock ticks on and the new millinum begins and the EKW school district ends up as the EK district because everyone is tired, tired of this going on and on for these many years and a majority vote for detachment. Not with any enthusiasm but because it seems like there is no other viable alternative.
So it looks like it is going to be a very busy fall.
