MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE AND HEALTH ADVICE
Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, employers must ensure that their employees are provided with appropriate health surveillance in relation to identifiable risks to their health and safety at work.Health surveillance is required for staff covered by specific health and safety regulations such as the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1998 (COSHH) and the Working Time Regulations (1998). It is also necessary when there are known or suspected health risks associated with particular occupations.Surveillance enables us to assess the employees' fitness for work, monitor their health at work and to assist with identification of potential health problems before they become chronic. It also enables us to check the effectiveness of current control measures, provide feedback to the organisation, and to identify individuals at increased risk.
