MEDICAL ADVICE ON THE WORKPLACE RISKS

A health risk is the likelihood that one or more adverse effects will occur to a specific individual or group of individuals in a particular situation. An environmental risk is the likelihood that one or more adverse effects will occur to a species or to part of the physical environment that is critical for the health of these systems.

Employers and the self-employed have a legal duty (Management Regulations) to make suitable and sufficient assessments of the risks to the health and safety of employees, non-employed and the self-employed. However, employers are required by other regulations to take certain other procedures for their employees’ health and safety e.g.

Display Screen Regulations require that employers assess workstations for health and safety risks.

The Manual Handling Regulations require that employers assess risks to themselves and their employees. Employers are required to use good practice and what is reasonably practicable.

The Noise Regulations require that you assess risks of noise. The COSHH regulations require that you assess risks from substances. Employers are required to keep records of these assessments.
