Quiet Day

We had a fairly quiet day today with no scheduled activities. Right now we are just waiting on Katie's passport and other documents (such as birth and abandonment certificates) to be finalized so we can move on to the next phase of the process.

After our hectic schedule yesterday, Katie had a rough night and early morning today, but I think we were able to get her on a better feeding and sleep schedule which seemed to help her. She makes sure we all know when she is not happy.

Most comfortable bed in China

Late this morning we ventured to the Super Wal-Mart in the city on our own...

Supporting the global empire

It was very nice to have the time to wander around and look at everything. Of course, we didn't really have a choice but to wander since all of the aisle signs were in Chinese. We probably would have spent even more time if there had been stronger air conditioning in the building.

This evening we went with another family to Pizza Hut as Alex had made a special request for this after Dan and I mentioned that we saw one on our way to McDonald's last night. We got the "American special" otherwise known as pepperoni, and it tasted pretty close to what we order at home. Afterward we went to a show where water fountains are set to music that takes place just across the street from our hotel along the Gan River each night. It is really pretty with the river and the city skyline in the background.

I forgot to mention that Alex is quite a celebrity in China. It seems that it is not very common to see an American child here. Both in Beijing and now Nanchang, people are always smiling and pointing at Alex. At numerous places, we have had people want to take pictures with him which is a bit strange. Those that speak some English will usually say "hello, little boy" and will try to find out his name and how old he is. Overall he is handling the attention fairly well and only periodically ducks behind my legs.

Since we had a quieter day, I made a number of attempts to get some pictures posted but am not having any luck. The access here is just too slow to upload photo files. I will do my best to get some posted as soon as we arrive in Guangzhou.
