SEPTEMBER 21st, 2009

Today we finalized the adoption by going to 2 government offices to sign papers. Our picture was taken (Faith with parents) and mounted on an official document. When we showed Faith the document, and told her she is now officially our daughter... she looked a little teary-eyed. I asked the interpreter if those were happy tears or sad tears or both. After asking Faith, she answered, "all the feelings mixed-up together." Interesting to me that my camera batteries died on arrival to the offices, so we do not have photos of that, which is ok... I think the finality of it all kicked in, and Faith may have been sad. So, I guess we don't really want to capture that on film.

We gave the Wanzai official a hardcover book with beautiful pictures of Connecticut for the foster mother. Inside was a letter thanking her for all she has done for Jinshuang, and that we will hold her in our hearts and our prayers forever. Faith knows she can write or call anytime. She said goodbye to the Wanzai "Wise Director" that she has known for years.

We ran a quick errand to Wal-Mart to buy Faith some pants (the clothes I brought from home for her are too small). We had difficulty finding the right size. There were plenty of little girl clothes, and grown up women clothes, but not too much for her age group. What we did find, she did not like. We left empty-handed except for a jacket.

After lunch, our interpreter took us to another place (within walking distance of the hotel) to try and buy pants (this is not our official shopping spree... this is getting something to wear for tomorrow). The place we went reminded me of the flea markets in Florida. Hundreds of tiny little spaces with clothes. Very, very hot, and very crowded. Not much to choose from in her age group/size. Macy got so overheated that she was dizzy and I had to get her outside for some air. We found one pair of jeans and got out of there.

Walking back to the hotel, we stopped in a shop that I chose. It looked fairly modern and had loud, funky music playing. Lots of pink. I let Faith pick out what she wanted. She picked out 2 girly dresses (pink and lace) and a pink skirt. This surprised me because I thought she was a bit of a tomboy. Now I see the girlie-girl emerging. Her face lit up when she walked out of the dressing room wearing a pink and white dress. Very sweet. Heartwarming.

Girlie-girl store that Faith liked.

Jet lag finally kicked in and Mom needed a nap. Rick took the girls to the pool, but Faith did not want to go in (I don't think she can swim, and the suit I brought is too small). She opted to go with Rick ahd Macy rather than stay with me in the room.

At dinner, Faith ate some hot soup very quickly, her face turned red and she started sweating. She got up quickly from the table. I followed her to the lobby. Now Faith was overheating. We went outside for some air (what is it with my girls today?!)...

... Back in the room, all is well. Nintendo DS is the game of choice for Faith. She is starting to talk a little - "Oh no!," "yes," "ok." She seems to let her guard down more in the room.
