August 2004

August 5th
Everything just seemed to be off tonight.  Our practices didn't go well, our heat race didn't go well, and our feature certainly didn't go well.  The track just didn't feel good to us today.  We couldn't get the car to handle at all.  We had to buy a new front right tire because our other one was worn.  That new font tire just pushed us all out of balance.  We started last in the feature and basically stayed there the whole night.  Going into the final lap the car let out a little puff of smoke and we had to pull off.  Once we got it in the pits we checked everything out and found out that we had a broken axel, again!  We are infamous for breaking axels every week.  This year we had been doing better, then in the last three races we go through two of them!  We'll fix the axel this week and hopefully we'll look better next Thursday.

August 12th
What a long exciting night!   Started 18th in our feature and finished 13th.  Well we actually finished 14th, but the #5 car was but back 5 spots for passing before the restart.  Glad to see him get penalized for that, although I think he should have gone to the rear.  Oh well.  All in all the race was okay, the car felt better than last week and we have no major repairs.  Now onto the good stuff!  Mike was offered a ride in a limited sportsman for their feature event.  Yes, a LIMITED SPORTSMAN!  Jerry Sevigny offered Mike a ride in his #71X in the feature event.  Jerry was penalized for an incident that happend earlier in his heat race so he was unable to start in the feature.  Mike happily agreed to drive the car and we were off to our second feature event of the night.  Mike started 37th in the feature even and finished 30th.  This was alot different than the mini stock, because one is front wheel drive the other is rear wheel drive.  Mike held onto it though. Going into the final lap he broke a rear axel, yes another axel!  When Jerry hit the wall with the car in it's heat race there was a hairline crack in the axel, it held out most of the race but on the final lap it finally gave out.  That sent Mike spinning and he let off a little fireworks show, but he still got out of the car smiling.  So did most of our crew, in case you didn't know 99% of our crew are limited sportsman people, so this was exciting for everyone!  Who knows, maybe next year Mike will take a step up and drive a sportsman!
