A little bird sent us the scoop on Raul's movie role.
He filmed it last week. His part is small,;
he is shown briefly singing in the cantina.
He did sing one of his own compositions which translated to:
"Why do you cry like this to me?"
He isn't sure if they'll feature the whole song or not.
Part of it could end up on the cutting room floor
(God let's hope not!!) He wrote it with his old friend Dennis
and another pal.
The title of his song from PTC is
PALABRAS and translates to WORDS.
RAUL announced on PRIME TIME COUNTRY on April 16,
he would be embarking on a solo
acoustic tour starting in October. He performed 2 songs on the show which aired on TNN,
MOON RIVER and a Spanish number
PALABRAS. His two young sons, Dino and Victor were also Gary
Chapman's guests during Raul's talk segment. Raul touched briefly
on his upcoming movie debut in
ALL THE PRETTY HORSES which he's already filmed,
playing the part of a musician. He humorously labeled the part as a "stretch" for
him.
RAUL SOLO PROJECT--
Raul a movie star??? Well he's going
to play the part of a bandleader in a movie called ALL THE PRETTY HORSES
It'll be directed by Billy Bob Thornton and Flaco will be part of the
band..
The NAMMIES (Nashville Area
Music Awards) were handed out on February 10th. The
Mavericks won TWO!! They won "Duo/Group of the
Year" and "POP Album of the Year".
Raul was also nominated for "Male Vocalist of
the Year" but that award went to Vince Gill.
The Music Bridges (Over
Troubled Waters) trip to Havanatook place in March.
Raul did not participate.

soundtrack for ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT. Not only
does Raul do a rousing vocal. BUT the Havana Horns
played on the cut and Matt Nygren did the much of
the horn arrangement.
Microsoft American TV ads
features the instrumental portion of the Mavericks
song ALL I GET which is on the "Hope
Floats" soundtrack.
The Mavericks are nominated
for a GRAMMY, in the "Best Country Duo or
Group" for the single "Dance The Night
Away". Grammies are handed out February 24!.
The MavFiles would like to

a big CONGRATULATIONS! He was married in early

A few
dates for the upcoming UK tour have been announced
and are already on sale. Watch the "On The
Road" section for the details as they come in!
The plan is for The Mavericks to kick the tour off in
Australia in March, then they head to Latin American
and Europe.
Raul Malo's proprosed Spanish album--No further word on it.
<ssssh!> A MavFiles exclusive: Raul Malo has overdubbed his vocals to
Roy Orbison's recording of "A Bridge Over
Troubled Water". A "duet" with
Orbison!!! The word is, and it's verbatim..."you
will shit when you hear it". All that is known
is that it's scheduled for European release. This
isn't widely publicized so let's keep
"quiet" about it until we hear something
official. Keep your eyes and ears tuned for more
info.
