Educational Scholarship

(20000 Series)

1000- Post Secondary Education (Faculty Recommend <$2500)

High Schools within Northern Kentucky are afforded the opportunity to have a faculty member write a letter of recommendation for two graduating seniors (one male/one female) who posses certain attributes. First and foremost, an individual must demonstrate his/her leadership by serving as a positive role model for peers and fellow students while maintaining scholastic excellence. Second, but of and equal importance, the individual must be willing to support and strengthen their community by giving of themselves and sharing one's talents and gifts. The recipients will receive the Distinguished Service Award which includes a $250 scholarship.

2000- Post Secondary Education (Selection Committee <$2500)

Making a Difference Scholarship Program is designed to offer $1,000 College Scholarships to eligible and deserving High School seniors from Northern Kentucky. The scholarship selection committee will review the submitted material as outlined in the application process after the school has confirmed the student's eligibility. The scholarship recipient will be selected based upon the merits of his/her documentation (a personal essay and 3 letters of recommendation). The scholarship funds will be addressed to the specific college/university for tuition assistance on behalf of the recipient following their graduation.

3000- Post Secondary Education (Selection Committee >$2500)

Each year the Making A Difference Scholarship Program recognizes the scholastic achievements of our Northern Kentucky Teens. But there is more than a superior GPA that makes an outstanding individual. An individual must demonstrate strong leadership skills and be willing to dedicate him/herself to the well-being of the community by doing their part to serve. As such, the scholarship selection committee comprised of the MADF board, will review and evaluate the submitted material as outlined on the application (a personal essay and 5 letter of recommendation) and award one $2500 college scholarship. The scholarship funds will be addressed to the specific college/university for tuition assistance on behalf of the recipient following their graduation.

4000- Adult Seminars/Courses

Learning is not limited to those who are in pursuit of post secondary education. Continuing one's education is a must to remain competitive in today's society. Computer software courses top the list most recently. Although keeping current with the market is essential, the Foundation also focuses on fundamental courses. The two programs most often requested/offer are CPR and basic first Aid.

8000- Educational Support (Supplies/Services for education)

Unfortunately school supplies and equipment are not readily available to every Northern Kentucky student. Every year, Making A Difference Foundation provides educational supplies to Northern Kentucky schools. Letters from pre-schools, kindergardens, and grade schools arrive requesting certain supplies and/or equipment and the foundation answers those request. In efforts to "share the wealth", please keep in mind that the goal of this program is to have the request focus on those supplies that reach the students.

9000- Sponsorship/Endorsement

Endorsements for local educational events are an ideal way the foundation can benefit a program. Monetary contributions are often necessary to increase the number of participants. If a Northern Kentucky School has an educational event that the foundation can help promote, contact our office with the details.

Youth Development

(30000 Series)

1000-Youth Education <$2500(Enabling Education for individual growth)

Knowledge is power and the youth of today need to continue to expand their educational opportunities. Most youth today find the traditional education to be limited and often not as fulfilling. Sure the education meets all required standards, but tends to lack depth. This is where the Foundation can provide real-life exposure to the class. There are times an expert joins the class covering a specific topic that the students are learning.

2000- Youth Education >$2500 (Enabling Education for individual growth)

Education takes many forms. From classroom setting of book learning to hands-on applications. These programs are most often outside of the classroom and take on the form of "field trips." Although most field trips are viewed as trips off the premise, the Foundation has found that "onsite trips" are just as effective. Why not let the Foundation bring that special guest/"hands-on environment" straight to you?

3000- Established Youth Group (Support involvement/interactions)

Organized groups provide an excellent forum for youth development. When there is interaction with a purpose great results happen. The Foundation recognizes the dedication and countless hours of efforts put forth by Northern Kentucky Volunteers and welcomes letters that provide insight into the organization and their endeavors with a hope to support the goal.

4000- Scholastic/Athletic Youth Support (Support self-esteem/teambuilding)

Both Scholastic and Athletic teams share the common goal to excel as individuals as well as a team. In addition, interaction with other youth beyond those in a classroom setting expands one's social skills and often leads to improved self-esteem. Let us not focus on the win, but growth of individuals. It is unfortunate that financial limitations prevent many children from participating. The Foundation works with local scholastic and athletic programs to assist in the cost of participation... everyone should have a chance to try.

5000- Special Interest Youth Support (Support of diverse opportunities)

Sports and Scholars may be the primary icons for the youth today. However, there are plenty of organized events that grow year after year. Northern Kentucky is no different. From equestrian rides for a cure to mission/service to improve the life of another. We may be able to Make A Difference by letting the foundation know of the event for which you and/or your child participates.

6000- Youth Events, Pre-Teen (Providing safe/social activity while supporting a community cause)

The organization of youth events are designed to allow the youth to contribute while affording a safe and social activity. Pre-teen events (grade school/middle school age youth) are held primarily with a community cause in mind. Maybe it's the bowling day dedication with proceeds supporting Katrina Kids. Or, it's the "Movie Madness" weekend where Pre-teens can take their mom or dad to the movies at no cost with the $5 donation received being dedicated to the local Fireman's Fund. Let the young enjoy life while supporting a community cause.

7000- Teen Events (Providing safe/social activity while supporting a community cause)

Teen events (high school youth) are a social gatherings in the eyes of the teenager. The event must pass the teen criterion of fun and worth their time. Teen Pointe focuses on events that afford safe gathering of teens and profiles a community cause that benefits one of their own. Events where the contributions go towards educational/support programs such as teen suicide prevention or teens against alcohol/drugs. Hitting home draws teens together for a common cause.

8000- Family Events (Providing activity for community cause)

Family events are designed to encourage quality time together for the purpose of giving to others. The Foundation's program entitled "From our Family to Yours" speaks for itself. Annually, the foundation identifies Northern Kentucky families who are in need and matches them with another family in the area. Neither family knows the identify of the other to avoid any uncomfortable situations. What is important is that we are one community that cares for each other. If you are interested in participating in this program, the Foundation awaits your call.

Why is it that the holiday season brings out the charitable side of ourselves? Speaking personally and straight from the Board of Directors, the Foundation wants to capitalize on our generosity. The two primary holidays that capture our hearts are Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is no reason why the homeless or those in need should go without a meal regardless the season. That is why monetary contributions are requested in order purchase essential food to stock the food pantries and soup kitchens in Northern Kentucky year round. The life expectancy increases and the elderly population is astonishing. As an admirer of Hospice, the foundation will assist this organization wherever possible. But the care of the elderly doesn't begin and end at death's door, let's enlighten the hearts of our seniors but bring laughter into their world. Sponsorship of children's plays, adopt a grandparent program and the program entitled flowers for our friends add that zest everyone longs to have. Help make these hopes a reality.

The foundation will then determine an appropriate response given the need and respond.
