Nobody knew what to expect tonight from these two football powerhouses.  St. Xavier was missing key players due to suspensions and injuries while Lexington Catholic was also suffering from the injury bug.  Whet the fans got was a classic as Lexington Catholic roared out of the gate and took a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter.  However St. Xavier met the challenge in a big way as they scored 42 unanswered points on their way to a 42-28 victory.  St. Xavier’s philosophy was simple down the stretch as they “let the big dog eat.” They kept handing off to RB Sam Taylor and their Bowl MVP responded with 260 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries.  They also had a big weapon in kicker Owen Johnson who kicked two field goals, two extra points and averaged 59.8 yards on eight kickoffs with seven touchbacks.  Lexington Catholic’s MVP was Sid Sharp who recorded 11 solo and eight assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 13 yards.

St. Xavier recorded 16 first downs and 402 yards of total offense.  The Tigers were penalized nine times for 80 yards. Lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Lexington Catholic recorded 13 first downs and 253 yards of total offense.  The Knights were penalized 10 times for 85 yards, lost two fumbles, and had two passes intercepted.

Sam Taylor led St. Xavier’s ground attack with 260 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries.  B. Metzmeier carried the ball 11 times for 58 yards.  Jack Albers completed nine of 20 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Cameron Garrett caught five passes for 39 yards.  Ben Seger added two receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Cameron Garrett returned four kickoffs for 134 yards with a long return of 78 yards.  Nolan Bruner led the defense with five solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards and recovered a fumble.  Kyle Robinson added four solo and three assisted tackles.  Jake Taylor recorded four solo tackles, recovered a fumble, and intercepted two passes.

Dameon Jones led Lexington Catholic’s ground attack with 79 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.  Kirk Fagot carried the ball 15 times for 38 yards.  Kirk Fagot completed 14 of 36 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Nathan Schnurr caught five passes for 47 yards and a touchdown.  Sam Hodges added three receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Sid Sharp led the defense with 11 solo and eight assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 13 yards.  Kevin Brown added seven solo and three assisted tackles and Jack Fagot recorded six solo and five assisted tackles.  Jake Topley intercepted a pass that he returned 91 yards for a touchdown.
