Alack! My bruised butt!

My gosh am I ever sore!! On Friday night we blocked a new scene, the one where the four lovers, Helena, Demetrius, Lysander, and Hermia are all brawling in the woods. I think it's about a 20 minute scene, during which I am running, leaping, being caught in mid-air, and flung to the ground about 20 times. I have bruises in places you can't imagine, because we rehearsed all of this on a concrete floor. Ouch. All four of us were limping slightly when we returned to rehearse again on Sunday. One good thing, though, is that I don't have to worry about Lysander. We haven't talked about it, much, but he's a student of Master Kim's, so I know I can at least trust him with the physical stuff. That's a good thing in this show, because there's lots of it.

Of course, my infirmity was aggravated by the physical labor involved at my house this weekend. I went out on Saturday and did a lot of cleaning up, and sanded down the drywall seams. They aren't the smoothest ever, but they will do. Nonetheless, it took about 4 hours of scrubbing to smoothe down those surfaces, and then I cleaned up the baby-powder-fine dust, and put primer on the walls. Then on Sunday I went out there with Roomie in tow, and painted the bedroom a pretty shade of skyish blue. After he left, I yanked nails from all of the old woodwork, so that I could reuse it.

Now let me just say that the people who built my house apparently meant for its plaster to expire in a mere 70 or 80 years, but they attached their woodwork for all eternity. These things were pounded into the walls with dozens of 4-inch galvanized steel nails. It took some serious will-power, sweat, and muscle to yank them out. My shoulders are still sore from it.

I digress. Anyway, I stripped all the old nails out, and then sanded them, and started to paint them. Hopefully next weekend on Saturday I can hang all the woodwork and roll out the carpet, and then, saints forfend, I might be ready to move! I'm knocking on some serious wood here, though, because I thought I would have been moved in two weeks ago.

Obviously on Saturday we didn't end up going to the renaissance faire. It was just plain too hot (the heat index was in the hundreds). Half of the reason the kids like to go is to see the bunnies and the horses, and we were sure that the animals wouldn't be performing in such heat. There also isn't much shade there, and Roomie and I would have spent much of the day dragging whiny kids all over the place.

Instead, we decided to go wander the mall to cool off. I'm really glad we did, because I found it very relaxing to just meander about and not be in a hurry to go anywhere. I was also very pleased to find a comforter and sheet set at a really great price that I think I will love. I plan to follow up on that purchase by decorating my bedroom with a wildflowers theme. After all these years of living in a bedroom that was haphazardly thrown together to suit my ex-husband's taste, it's nice to design something of my own.

Roomie's new job starts in a week, and I think he's pretty excited. It means I won't be driving him to work anymore, which is nice in a way, but I will miss seeing him all the time. Ah, well. I can use the extra half-hour every morning to do Yoga or something.

Pardon my unfocused rambling today. I am pretty tired, and in the middle of a lot of things at work. Tonight I have another tough rehearsal, which I am somewhat dreading, since I am still not comfortable without a script in my hands.
