May 17, 2007 Spring Luncheon

September 21, 2006 Fall Luncheon.  To view the notice click here.  (You must have a recent version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer to view this pdf file).  Due to time restrictions, HR used the Spring 2006 luncheon mailing list.  New retirees will not receive the notice in the mail.  If you did not receive it, you can print and use the pdf invitation.

May 18, 2006 Approximately 100 retirees attended the Spring Luncheon.  Bill Roe, Nalco COO gave an informal presentation.  He stated that sales are up and profits flat.  Sales are up due to price increases, while earnings are flat due to the price increases not being enough to cover all the cost increases.  He expects that earnings for the full year will met what Nalco has promised the analysts.

Pending pension legislation may impact Nalco's ability to offer the "lump sum" payment option.  He stated that Nalco will maintain the "lump sum" payment option....to keep people  from leaving.  Nalco plans to add money to the pension plan to bring it to the level required by the new pension legislation (guessed to be 80% funding) if the bill passes.

It appears that Clearing is being re-opened to a greater and greater extent as demand for Nalco products increases.

February 7, 2006 Nalco Holding Company (NYSE:NLC - News) sales increased 9.2 percent in 2005 to $3.3 billion and net income improved to $47.8 million from a year-ago net loss of $138.8 million. Sales were primarily driven in the year by higher prices aimed at offsetting continued raw material and energy cost increases. The 2004 net loss was the result of one-time charges.  Click here for details.

September 15, 2005 The Fall 2005 luncheon featured three "after lunch" speakers from Nalco.

Bill Roe, Nalco COO, explained how Nalco was dealing with its debt.  The colorful Power Point presentation was in response to the Chicago Tribune article "Nalco awash in debt as returns flow to buyers".  Another Nalco management discussion of this can be found here.

Laurie Marsh discussed the Nalco health plan for 2006.  Key points were a) premiums for over 65 retirees will increase by approximately 2%, b) premiums for under 65 retirees will increase by approximately 14%, and C) Nalco will continue with the prescription drug plan for over 65 retirees.  Retirees should not choose the new Medicare Drug Plan (Part D).  Nalco's is better and signing up for Medicare Plan D prevents a retiree from using the Nalco benefit.

Mary Manupella, Vice President of Human Resources, discussed Nalco Disaster Relief Programs for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Among the initiatives, Nalco will match contributions by employees and retirees to the American Red Cross.  Details can be found here.

December 7, 2004 Some retirees received confirmation letters which were wrong and matched bogus information on the Hewitt Website.   Their benefits elections had been changed by unknown forces.  Others received confirmation letters which were wrong, but the information in Hewitt's Website was correct.  Their elections had not been changed on the on-line site.  Hewitt customer reps told them to ignore the confirmation letters.  To my knowledge no one has received a confirmation letter which was accurate but the website contained wrong information.  I guess that is good news.

December 6, 2004 Every retiree should monitor their account to be certain coverage is correct.  There have been problems.  Please click here for details.

November 28, 2004 If you received the new letter, and have any questions, call Hewitt at 1-800-662-5266.  You can also change your coverage selections at this time.  You might want to call and have Hewitt mail you confirmation of your coverage for 2005.  The mailing seems to have been a mistake.  I think the intent was to allow people who did not enroll, for whatever reason, the opportunity to enroll before the end of the year.  If you know of someone who missed the enrollment period, suggest they call and enroll now.

November 26, 2004 Received NEW annual Enrollment Worksheet today.  States that Nalco's annual enrollment period ends December 5, 2004.  I would assume that this is a mistake.  Will attempt to contact Nalco on Monday.  The paper work I received is incorrect........"Coverage Information" on page 4  does not match "Assigned Coverage" (which is correct) on page 2.  I would assume the November 26th mailing is a blend of enrollment paperwork (worksheets) and enrollment confirmation.  The saga continues.

September 18, 2003 Over a hundred retirees attended the Fall Retirees' Luncheon.  Mike Bushman, a representative from Naperville, spoke and answered questions about the purchase of Ondeo-Nalco.  Among the comments made were:

A consortium  of three companies - The Blackstone Group (37%), Apollo Management L.P. (37%), and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners (25%) (see links below for details) has purchased all of Nalco, worldwide.  This includes acquisitions made by Suez prior to the purchase of Nalco which were integrated into the company.

The purchase of Nalco should be finalized before the end of 2003.  At that time. the Ondeo name will no longer be used.  The Nalco "N" will return with, maybe, some graphic enhancements.   The consortium's intention is to take Nalco public in three to seven years.  The next key step is presentation to the bond rating agencies in a couple of weeks.  Bill Roe is the acting CEO.

Retiree's Health Cost premiums will rise as previously announced.  This year retirees are paying 30% of the health cost, will pay 40% in 2004, and 50% in 2005.
