| Before
coming to the University of Westminster, I previously studied at the University
of Glasgow
where I obtained an Upper Second Master of Arts degree in History
with Film and Television Studies.
I also completed a Master Of Philosophy degree and worked as an undergraduate
tutor for the recently created Andrew
Hook Centre for American Studies, Glasgow.
My research areas focussed primarily around the question of national identity and the contemporary media. The Reflecting Wall of History was a Master's thesis examining the way German cinema, following the fall of the Berlin Wall, dealt with its traumatic past. For more information on German culture, check out the Goethe Institute. The Trial(s) of Rodney King was an American Studies thesis and focussed on the media representation of the beating and subsequent trial of Rodney King in Los Angeles. To see some of these research angles, have a look at my analysis of the The Blair Witch Project. As a student I spent my summers serving pizzas and cold beer on resorts up and down the east coast of America. I was a participant on the BUNAC exchange programme. I have worked as a researcher for an Independent TV Production Company in Scotland, Scope Productions. My work here included programming proposals for BBC Reputations on Lucille Ball and Sonny Liston , Channel 4's Football Stories on the real romance of the tartan army , and an Independent Video project entitled The Road which is a modern day tale of euthanasia (think Jack Kerouac and Hunter S. Thompson meets Everyman.) I have also worked for a student film festival, Long Shots , Sky Sports as a Production Assistant and London Advertising Agency BBJ Communication Partners where I was a TV Planner / Buyer. In my spare time I tend to catch up on reading (the news I've missed) , indulge my passion for film (Independent American Cinema) , interest in photography (photo-journalism) , worry about a football team (Celtic) , listen to the greatest noise known to mankind ( R.E.M.) and generally focus on eating, sleeping, breathing, blinking, laughing and remaining positively upright for as much time as I possibly can manage. Thanks for dropping by, Chris
