The Tutu Mints were the combination of several regular customers of the Grape Coffee House in the winter of 2000-2001. In their short stint they made interesting guitarless music that often sounded like video game theme songs. With the combination of spoken poetry in some songs, and Andrew and Graham's affinity for rap in others, the songs were across the board. The standout of the repertoire was the epic jam song "8 bit karate fight song" which appears on the assembled collection 8 bit karate fight demo. The band played one show in its brief existence, which featured a cover of The Buzz Spectors' "Steve Thinks I'm A Fag".
