I got a call from an associate producer for VH1, for their new and upcoming reality show, "Totally Obsessed" Her name was Angela Bosworth,  and she invited me to send in an audition tape to her. I was asked a few questions about my loyalty to the Late Show with David Letterman and of course, about Anton Fig.  I had submitted an email to an open casting call a couple months ago, but seriously, I did not think for a minute that they would ever consider me.

 After making a 20 minute video, I sent it off to MTV Networks, and now I am awaiting to hear if I made the cut. In the video, I talked about my "obsession" with the Late Show and how much I dig Anton. I also showed off my many autographed memorabilia and the personalized video from Anton's visit to Palatine, iIlinois last year. 

UPDATE: "We absolutely loved it!" That is the word from VH1 in regards to my video.   I was further told that the show is in the very early  stages of production, and for me to stand by.  On March 9th, I checked in with the VH1 associate producer to ask if there was still a chance for me to be on the show and she said, "yeah, hang tight!"

Yes, Anton is aware of what is happening, and from what I understand he is waiting to see how this all pans out. I think that after all the years of letter writing and radio promo that it's about time we finally meet, fan to drum legend!

( People often ask me what my "dream show" would be. I am hoping that they would send me to New York City to meet Anton and the entire cast on  his "turf" at the Late Show, since that show has been such a huge part of my life for so many years.) He is also entirely welcome to visit my hometown anytime!

This radio station was running a contest in which they were looking for the "ultimate top ten". The winner gets a trip for two to New York City to see a taping of the Late Show. So, I quickly whipped up a list. I received a call about a week later that I had made it to the semi finals, and on January 29th I read my letter to the masses.                                                      

Thank you to Vince (who was patient enough when we played phone tag via my cell phone to hook everything up!) and the Paul Perry morning show for a great time!  I did not win this contest, I lost to some old guy, well back to the drawing board.   

I would like to  get on at least a couple radio shows with Anton this spring or summer.

To the left is a photo of Anton in October at  98 Rock in Baltimore. He was in town for a Kiss Convention, and  I participated in this interview via phone. I had sent the show an email a couple days beforehand, but somehow I was taken totally offguard when they called one a.m. I had such a great time, and I was told "We'd love to have you here in Baltimore!"

As hard as I tried, I could not get an Anton-related letter read, but this was equally cool. I have to wonder if he was paying attention enough to realize it was me! HA!

“Dear Dave, Have you read any good books lately?”
Dave loves to read and he just picked up the Pete Rose controversial new book, My Prison Without Bars. Dave says he got one of those book-on-tape deals where the book is on audio and read by the author, in this case, baseball legend Pete Rose. We listen to an excerpt.

“I’m very sorry I bet on baseball. And I’m even more sorry that I bet 50,000 ‘givl’ing dollar on the Mets! The Mets are piss-poor. Kids, if you’re listening, take it from Pete – stay away from those bastards!”

Sounds like he learned his lesson.
