Prickly Shark
Scientifically:
Echinorhinus cookei.
What To Look For:
Named after the small denticles covering the body. This
shark is grey-brown with a conspicuous white area around
the mouth and under the snout. Large, heavy and slow-moving,
it lives on the sea floor or in submarine canyons, to depths
of 500 m.
Size:
Up to 4 m.
Distribution:
Scattered throughout the Pacific.
Food:
A variety of sharks, bony fish, octopus and squid.
Breeding:
Unknown.
Danger To Humans:
Not known to be dangerous.
