Dave Starr

Vicious Rumors/WILDESTARR

(Picture taken by Carl Albert)

Dave Starr is currently the guitarist for WILDESTARR but has also played with Chastain & Vicious Rumors, among others.. I met Dave for the first time back in 1991 when he was touring with Vicious Rumors.. He's a truly talented guitarist. A pleasure to see live in action & a pleasure to meet. The early Vicious Rumors was something really special. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Dave, you can read it here!

1. Any person (living or dead) that you would like to meet and why?

Adolf Hitler. I have studied WWII history my whole life, and although he was one of the more evil men of our time... he was also a fascinating individual. I agree with nothing that he did, but that does not diminish the interest that I have in his life story and the hell that he unleashed on his fellow man.

2. Who are some of your favorite musicians?

Judas Priest, all of them!, Phil Lynott and all the Thin Lizzy guys, KISS as well. Those 3 bands are my biggest influence.

3. What's your guilty musical pleasure?

I don't really call it guilty, I think we all listen to different types of music. I love Taylor Dayne and Tina Turner. I'd love to work with either one of those lady's some day.

4. Who did you idolize as a child?

Probably my dad. He was a high ranking Navy officer, and he left a very big impression on me when I was a young boy. For a long time I wanted to go into the Navy and be like him.

5. Stranded on a deserted island, what 3 cds would you have with you?

KISS Alive!, Judas Priest "Unleashed in the East", Scorpions "Tokyo Tapes"

6. The difference between today's music and the music of the 80's?

To be honest, I don't listen to much of today's music. I don't care for most of what I hear. Most of the singers today are crap. Back in the 80's, the metal that I liked had great songs, great singers, great musicians. That seems to be lacking today.

7. Favorite place to perform?

On the couch at home, surrounded by our dogs!

8. What makes a good song?

Great hooks, melodies, song structure, great vocals. See question 6!!

9. What are your hobbies?

I study military history, I have done this my whole life. Also, London (my wife and singer in WildeStarr) and I have yacht, and I like to take it out on SF Bay whenever I can. I like Sci-Fi and horror movies as well.

10. Favorite food to eat on the road?

What ever is on the plate. I love all the stuff that is bad for you.... like pizza!

11. The first concert you ever went to?

KISS 1977 Love Gun Tour

12. Who's the best person you've met on the road?

Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy. We met back in 1992 and spent a lot of time talking on his tour bus. Great guy, and very nice. One of my favorite guitar players.

13. Any current projects?

I play all the guitars and bass in WildeStarr. Very heavy and melodic metal. Our 2nd CD just came out a few months ago. If Like like Judas Priest, old QR, Savatage, old VR, DIO, etc. you will like us.
