I don't believe in having a single "favorite" book (movie or anything else), so to help you out, here's a scale to determine what I like better than others (it's just my opinnion). If the book gets a five, it still means I liked the book enough to put it on this list . . . I just like others better. If a book is not on this list, it may be because I have not read it.

Most important to me in any story (including movies) are multi-level plots, believeable characters and believeable settings.

Liked very much; emotionally drawn to the characters, have possibly cried or teared up, well written, good character development and multi-level plot--will pick up at any given time and read portions of the book, if not the entire way through.

Liked, good plot, decent charactors, have read most of it more than once . . . will pick up to read sections of it again.

Liked the plot and character's enough to put on this list. Have picked up to read sections of it--most likely won't go all the way through again--though the first time wasn't bad.

Kristen Heitzmann
Secrets:You don't have to read the Diamond of the Rockies series to love this book, however, as I loved that series it only added to my enjoyment of this one. It's a bittersweet addition in many ways, but exciting how Heitzmann has incorperated history to pull together her books and characters ... I'll let you read it and see why this is one my my new favorites! Thanks Kristen for making me a believer in published fiction again!
The Rose Legacy:My least favorite of the series, but an essential book! If I judge the series as a whole, then this is just another #1! However, I am glad that I read all three after the third book came out, or I would have been sitting on nails waiting for the next installment. Kind of like I am with the sequel to Secrets.
Sweet Boundless:My second favorite of the series, I really liked her character developement and felt that she had improved as a writer by this book. I loved the historical setting and the family relationship.
The Tender Vine:All I can say is, wow, Quillan, what a man ... what a team Heitzman has put together, discovering their path in life. I really loved this book, the characters and the plot both kept me reading! The best of the series.
Robin Jones Gunn
I Promise:My least favorite of the three Christy and Todd, the College Years, I still gave it a "1" because it is good--it just embraces more of the reality of getting married then the complete romance of marraige. There is a seriousness to marraige that there isn't in dating. And for the first time, in all the books, Todd's "sporadicism" isn't so much a good thing as a problem he is finally realizing is a problem. I think it's a good look a marraige and committment. It isn't a Jane Austen, who created the romance where money would not be a problem. Very, very, good.
As You Wish: I grew up with the Christie Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn, however, it ended with the twelth book and kind of left you hanging as Chistie stands on the edge of adulthood. The books always challenged me spiritually as a teen, and now as an adult I am so excited to relate to her. This one had many great simple lessons and captured a spirit of college that was great--reminded me of so many things from my college years--and the romance is sweet and so just right for what I have always wanted for the characters. This is a must read for romantics!!!!!!
Until Tomorrow:This is the first book of Christie Miller's College years. It's wonderful and takes and scenic look, and heartfelt look at Europe as Todd and Christie take several steps together in faith. I teach Europe in Geography and would one day love to go there--I think Ms. Gunn did a wonderful job as a story teller relating these places.
Christie Miller & Seirra Jenson SeriesThis is a wonderful series for teens--I think all teenage girls need to get to know these two girls.

Ect.:Ms. Gunn has continued her story telling tradition with Secrets and at least five more books.

Shadows Along the Ice:This is (again) one of my all time favorite Christian Romance books. It was written by Judy Baer in 1985. Good Luck if you can find it. Good information on Canadian life--I would like to see this updated into 2000 times as in clothing, e-mail and internet (she has very little contact with her family and types on a manual typewriter). It does seem dated but very good.
Hawaiian Sunrise: by Lauraine Snelling. This is a book about a woman struggling to settle herself within God's grace, taking place in Hawaii. A wonderful fiction romance. Good, strong and believeable characters! Details that capture the setting and lifestyle of farming and living on Hawaii.
Lori Wick
A Place Called Home: This was the first book of Lori Wick's that I read--I can even remember the place--and I've followed her since--until recently with her newest novels. Listed below are my favorite--that I love more thanA Place called Home (it's all my opinnion of course).
The Hawk and the Jewel:My absolute favorite, set in Victorian England,it is about a love growing between friends full of a bit of everything, including several other wonderful romances within. It has a multi level plot, believeable character's, and a vibrant setting.
Wings of the Morning: (Kensington Chronicles) Smokey's a mystery on the seas and Dallas is a shipbuilder who is captivated by her. A "swasbuckling" adventure on the high seas!
Other K. C. SeriesWho Brings Forth the Wind (3) and The Knight and the Dove (5)
Where the Wild Rose Blooms: (Rocky Mountain Memories) The BEST of the series. Clay dreams of being a teacher, and as a teen, like most males, is blind to young love of one of his dearest friends. And yet, will that young love be spoiled by a disaster, or by a difference in faith?
Sophie's Heart:The only one of her contemporary books that I have liked--again, my opinion. Sophie doesn't always seem so real because of a language barrier--there are things that she doesn't seem to get that she should--that really shouldn't be part of a language barrier, as in she always seems surprised to be in love.
Whatever Tomorrow Brings:(The Californians) and the other books in the series--Lori Wick does a good job in some of her books in captureing the setting. I don't think this is one of them, but they are good, sweet romances. As Time Goes By(5), Sean Donovan(5), Donovan's Daughter(5)

Marilyn Kok
Still Point:written in just prior to the changing of Hong Kong over to self-rule, this book shows (just like Glory, her first book) Kok's familiarity with the landscape of Hong Kong. You meet two very real character's and a good strong plot guids you through. She does an incredible job with setting and writes about strong characters. It's been awhile since I've heard anything from her--and I'm waiting with anticipation to hear more!
Heaven's Song:Marilyn Kok; shows Kok's understanding of university life on the graduate and doctorial level. Good strong plot. Again, she does and incredible job with setting and characters.
Glory:this one was slower than the other two (only a little), but it has grown on me. It was one of her first, if not her first, and still very good. I'm looking for her to put more out!!!

Lisa Tawn Bergren
Refuge:(new note as of 6/4/01: Bergren is re-releasing Refuge and Torchlight and both have been revised. I have not read the revised versions). Two stories in one. First Rachel, a successful urbanite, visits her friend Beth and reluctantly meets a man who steals her heart--in Montana! The second book is about Jake, a friend of Rachel and Beth's who becomes forman on Dirk's ranch . . . enter Emile--a mysterious woman who Jake wants to love and protect . . . but that's not so easy. It may be a number three in my list of favorites because every time I read it I hear that song Big Mountain covered--I Can't Help Falling in Love With You.
Torchlight:It is a good story with a good romance, however, I have some problems with the male lead and the story line (which may be fixed in the new version, I don't know). I guess I had problems with Julia as well, because you wanted her to make up her mind.
Treasure:Exciting Romance! Great details and spiritual look. Cute kids and an idea of family. Adventure, travel!
Chosen:I did not like this book. I don't know if it was not quite believeable or if I just didn't follow the story line. It was almost like there was an adventure where there didn't need to be.
Firestorm: Bergren is a great researcher and writer and this book proves it. She takes a look at the lives and details of professional fire storm fighters who live to stop wilderness fighers and save the world. Believeable characters, believeable story, great details.

Terri Blackstock

Song of Joy: By Elaine Shulte. Very good characters and plot for a romance you can root for an believe in, and even when you and to hate the guy as you watch them both grow. I need to get this finished, so I'll come back and add reviews later.
The Sign of the Carusel: By Jane Peart. I need to get this finished, so I'll come back and add reviews later.
