In the Watchung Arts Center lower gallery Kit Sailers "Aquaculture" will be on display from Jan. 4th through the 30th. Our gallery hours are 1-4pm Monday through Saturday. The show will have an open reception on Sunday, January 10th from 1-4pm. These receptions are free and offer a chance to meet the artist and discuss her work.
Kit Sailer lives and works in Jersey City. She is a graduate of Syracuse University and a past recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship. Kit has been exhibiting since the early 1980s in a wide range of galleries and shows throughout the tri-state area. She has been written up in the Daily News, several times by the New York Times and the Daily News. Her work was used as a cover for the New York Art Calendar from 1987.
Kit Sailer uses oils on linen to create vibrant colorful aquatic views. Often her works make you feel as if you were submerged in the ocean and the sea life is unjolating or waving as you swim by. The subjects are not always clear, they sometimes slowly emerge from the background and become clearer as you view her paintings. Kit has a distinctive style and flow about her work that moves you. Her whimsical creatures are spirits of the sea. Her lines flow and are soothing which creates a sense of movement and play.
This kaleidoscopic exhibit will be on display in the lower gallery of the Watchung Arts Center from January 4 - January 30, 1999 with the gallery hours open Mondays through Saturdays from 1-4pm. The Upstairs gallery will feature "The Pageant of Life" curated by Danielle Kondracki.
