About Us

The Legacy Health Foundation is a unique, non-profit charitable organization located in Oberlin, Ohio that was founded in 2004 to combat hunger in a new way -- holistically addressing the growing interrelated problems of hunger, malnutrition, chronic disease, and toxic elements in our food and environment.  We believe that feeding the hungry alone is only a short-term solution.

Many people are unaware of the multitude of harmful chemicals and other toxins present in our food supply, and the significant negative impact they can have on human health.  If you are contaminated with toxins that can trigger disease, and are weak, malnourished, and unable to fight disease due to the lack of nutrients present in most foods, it can become very difficult to recover or maintain a state of good health and function as a productive member of society.

In most cities, the water contains over 700 chemicals, while 10,000 different toxic and carcinogenic chemicals are used in food processing and preservation, with foods additionally losing most of their nutritional value during processing.  Our bodies are being bombarded by more and more added chemicals that are reacting as they are absorbed in our bodies in unpredictable combinations, attacking us physiologically and neurologically, and contributing to the manifestation of disease.

"We've always had the assumption that medical science is advancing and that people are getting healthier, but that is not the case," said Darius Lakdawalla, lead author of a Rand Corp. study published in the Journal of Health Affairs in January 2004.  The health of young Americans is getting worse.  The extremely poor state of health of our population is evident when looking at the virtual epidemic-level of increases we are experiencing in diagnosed diseases and illnesses in people of all ages.

For these reasons, our approach is multi-disciplinary.  Unlike most other hunger programs, the Legacy Health Foundation strives to reinforce, through educational initiatives, that critical to healing and maintaining good health is the elimination of toxins and the addition of highly nutritional elements.  We also foster preventative and non-invasive approaches to healthcare, distribute health and nutrition information, and provide access to free and low-cost non-toxic foods and health-promoting products that are free from pesticides, steroids, antibiotics, bleach, preservatives, radiation, additives, neurotoxins, genetically-modified and artificial ingredients, dyes, chemicals, and other contaminants.

Our ultimate goal when providing nutritional and health information and products is the significant improvement of eating habits, lifestyle habits, and overall health and well-being to a level that will enable our clients to be more self-sufficient, productive, and to have the strength, confidence, and state of mind and health to be able to independently take positive and proactive measures that will enrich their lives, and that of their families and community.

Legacy’s products and services touch individuals within every cultural and socioeconomic group, and are provided at little or no cost.

  • Children with learning disabilities, health problems, and limited access to nutritional foods.
  • The elderly, who often have special health and nutritional needs.
  • The chronically ill, where traditional medical treatments have failed.
  • The economically disadvantaged, including the indigent, the unemployed, and the homeless.
