Colombia Trip

I didn't mention it, but we went to Colombia for two weeks. We got back last week.
It was a lot of fun. We spent a week on the coast in Santa Marta...little trivia bit...Santa Marta was the Spanish's first permanent settlement during colonization. It is a very safe town...there are severe penalties against those caught committing crimes...espeacilly against tourists. The reasons should be obvious, but in case they aren't: brining in tourist money!! If the area is known for being safe for tourists, more tourists will come and spend money.
We ate a lot of great food...seafood at nearly every single meal...I was in heaven with that! The resort we stayed at was great...but the prices were nearly the same as here in the States. So I can imagine how much profit they must be making there. Nonetheless, we had a great time doing very little. Most of our days consisted of getting up late, laying by the pool, eating lunch, laying by the pool some more (Cuba Libres in hand...that's what they call Rum & Coke's), playing volleyball, swimming in the pool or ocean, shower & eat supper, watch the shows or activity they put on nearly every night, go to bed.
We did go out one night on the town with some people we met at the resort...a German couple, a Colombian couple and another dude from Colombia. We went through two bottles of Aquadiente (Firewater)...good times!
Then we spent a week in the city in Medellin. Around 2 million people live in the city with another 2 million in the surrounding areas...so it's a pretty big city. I liked it a lot...except for the pollution! Here in the States, we are told all the time that we are the biggest polluters in the world. I find that nearly impossible to believe. If you doubt my doubt, just travel abroad...case closed. After driving around the city for an hour I had a headache and my eyes were burning!
We went out one night to Mangos (search youtube.com for "Mangos Medellin" to get an idea what the place is like.) It was cool...there are midgets running around taking pictures...and dancing...lots of dancing, they have three or four areas for dancers (they have paid dancers on staff), the wait staff is dressed in cowboy gear...our bus boy had on a Psycho Ward orange jumpsuit...there was a magician running around and an amputee (staff member)...and did I mention lots of hot Colombia women in REALLY tight jeans? That is the fashion down there right now...super tight, low cut jeans and implants. Great for scenery at a club.
As I said earlier...good times!
