Why didn't anyone respond to my guestbook entry/email?
We apologize if we haven't answered you. It may have been overlooked or what you've mentioned has been addressed already. Please continue to read through the site, and if your question wasn't answered to your satisfaction, please email us again.
Who are you people to make a website that tells people what they should and should not write?
We are fans who want to make a difference. We have never told people what they should or shouldn't do. And that includes writing or reading or posting any type of fanfic. This is an informational site designed to create awareness and as a resource for those that prefer not to read sexually explicit fanfics.
I was reading Torie's Thoughts and she thinks this is to get rid of sexually explicit fanfics, but y'all claim it's not.
Back when Torie (and a few others) first posted their thoughts, that may have been what they believed WWTT to be about. WWTT has changed and evolved since some of these Thoughts were posted.
Don't you know fanfic hosts put ratings, descriptions, and warnings on stuff?
Back in the early stages of fanfics, we didn't see the need to post any sort of rating or warning on fanfics because there weren't many pure fanfic sites out there. Most fanfic sites began as a simple fan site, then added a few stories. Then a new breed of fanfics began to emerge. From the beginning, WWTT has been about increasing awareness. I'd like to think that WWTT has helped in the respect that most sites that need disclaimers or ratings or whatever now DO carry them.
Is it possible to agree with WWTT, but still write/read sexually explicit fanfics?
This may be difficult to understand, but yes. There are many levels to the WWTT Challenge. While you may think that WWTT is a good idea and that having the list of supporting sites is great for those that like reading these stories, you may have made the personal decision that you don't mind reading more explicit fanfics. That's okay! The main idea behind WWTT is that it's a personal choice.
Is writing fan fiction in itself an invasion of privacy, regardless of how explicit it is?
Yes, fanfics are an invasion of privacy if you look at it by the book. But then reporters and teen magazines and fans that take pictures of the Boys are also invading their privacy as well. As a typical fan, we do not truely know the Boys as well as we'd like to... we only know them as the personas they have presented to us.
Why do you refuse to enter into the debate?
If you could only GLIMPSE the torrential amounts of emails and guestbook entries that we get that amount to not much more than "sex is wonderful" and "maybe you should get some" and "you're so stupid", then maybe you would understand why we often refrain from commenting on issues that have REPEATEDLY been brought up. The only reason that certain topics appear over and over in the guestbooks is because people don't take the time to read previous entries that we've made or even to read the FAQ. [Thanks for reading!] It's NOT because we never reply to them... it's just that we don't feel the need to CONSTANTLY REPEAT OURSELVES when we could be doing something more productive.
What does 'explicit' mean?
Everyone will always have thier own opinions as to what explicit means... Personally, we view a sexually explicit fic as being one that only focuses on the sexual act rather than developing the story line. Some others may view any mention of any sexual act beyond kissing as being explicit, while others think that it's not explicit until there are pictures. Like we've mentioned before, the WWTT Challenge is not about making blanket statements regarding fanfics or the writers or even the readers... it's about a PERSONAL CHOICE. Where do you draw the line? That's a choice you'll have to make for yourself.
I've changed my mind and I don't want to support WWTT anymore. How do I get my website off your list?
While we're not happy to lose your support, we're glad you made the mature decision to ask for your link to be removed. Even though you believe this means you are no longer associated with WWTT, you are also helping us by not lying to people wanting to read fanfics on WWTT-supporting sites. To get your link removed or even changed, just email us at: What_Would_They_Think@yahoo.com.
What can I do to help the WWTT challenge?
If you have a website, add our banner and then fill out the form to have your site added to our list of supporters. By doing this, you have taken a stand and anyone who sees that banner will know you're a supporter. While you're reading fanfics, if you find a site that you feel would fit WWTT's challenge, then nicely email the owner of that website and tell them about this page. Please don't send any negative emails or guestbook entries to websites or authors who have non-WWTT sites. We are not out to start a war. If you have any ideas for publicity or if you want to tell us what you're doing to promote WWTT, please email us! We'd love to hear from you!
