EPISODE III UNIVERSE
EPISODE 111
ARCHIVE 1

The following information is taken from various sources including TheForce.net, Episode-3.co.uk and EpisodeII.com

1997
1998
EARLY 1999
LATE 1999
EARLY 2000

March 1997
In a
BBC Radio One interview George Lucas confirmed that the third episode would be the darkest of the three saying it will "fit in really well with the 21st century".

1996 - 1997
During the early years of rumours it was suggested that someone other than Lucas would direct the movie. These included Frank Darabont, David Fincher and Luc Besson. All denied it.

January 1998
On the 9th January 1998 Rosie O'Donnel Show, Natalie Portman confirmed that she was in all three of the prequels.

March 1998
The
Official Star Wars site confirmed that 2005 would be the year that Episode III would be released.

October 1998
During a question and answer section at a lecture, James Earl Jones confirmed that he would be voicing Darth Vader for the last five minutes of Episode III. I guess that means the final scene of the movie will definately involve our Sith Lord.

November 1998
At a press conference in Sidney, George Lucas revealed that the new Fox Studios there would be the location of the shooting of many scenes in both Episodes II and III. He said, "Sydney is a wonderful location for the film -- it's an exciting city, with a reputation for highly professional and experienced crews and now great production facilities."

November 1998
Many rumours began concerning whether or not Natalie Portman would would reprise her roel for Episode III despite her positive comments ten months previously.

December 1998
Adrian Dunbar was revealed as playing Leia's future father in Episode I. However, it was later discovered that his scenes were deleted since Lucas wanted a younger actor to take the part in Episodes II and III.

March 1999
In several interviews, including one in Premiere magazine, Goerge Lucas confirmed again the basic feel of the Thrid Prequel:
And the next episodes in the prequel series will be darker than Episode I?
"By their very nature. The next one isn't so bad. The third one's pretty bad."

That's when Anakin goes over to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader?
"Yes. Episode III will probably make half of whatever the others make..."

Noggins' Comment:
Hmmm, personally I doubt that. I don't think there's anyone on the whole planet who wants to miss Anakin's final fate...

May 1999
At the Denver Star Wars celebration, producer Rick McCallum said George Lucas would "unquestionably" be directing Episode Three. McCallum also revealed the third prequel begins filming in June 2003 and will be released in May 2005.

May 1999
Again on the Rosie O'Donnel SHow, Natalie Portman put rest the rumours of her non-involvement in Episode III by revealing she had signed for the two final Star Wars movies.

May 1999
James Earl Jones appeared on CNN and again officially confirmed that he had been signed to record Vader's voice for the final five minutes of Episode III.

May 20th 1999
The first movie in the prequel trilogy, the Phantom Menace was finaly released to varying criticism. I, personally am a massive fan and I thought that, despite a few inconsisitencies that I'm sure will be sorted out, it was a great film that fitted in perfectly with the 'feel' of the others. Like all other fans around the world I began wondering what was going to happen in the later movies...

une 1999
Ewan McGroegor appeared on CNN talking about his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in TPM. During the interview he revealed that he said we wouldn't see that big of a change in the character between Episodes III & IV - that one would flow into the next. I guess this means that the years between Episodes I and II may see the majority of this change with his mistake in training Anakin doing the rest.

July 1999
EpisodeII.com revealed that in an interview on a Swedish site, Rick McCallum said that Pernilla August (Shmi Skywalker) would be returning for Episode II and possibly Episode III as well.

July 1999
The
Force.net said that the August edition of Starlog magazine contained an interview with George Lucas that there would be no more installments after Episode III:
Starlog: Does that mean you won't do Episodes VII, VIII and IX?
Lucas: I will *not* do VII, VIII and IX.
Starlog: You will not? Will they be made by somebody else?
Lucas: No. They will not.
Starlog: No. So this trilogy ends it?
Lucas: This is it. This is all there is.

July 1999
EMPIRE magazine had an interview with George Lucas in which he confirmed:
1) "...the final story is between Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin and the Queen. It's really their story. Those four characters."
2) The reason why Qui-Gon Jinn didn't disappear after his death has something to do with Obi-Wan's line in Episode IV: "If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

February 2000
EpisodeIII.com revealed that Dave Prowse, the body of Darth Vader in the previous trilogy said that he probably would not reprise his role in the the final Episode. Recent injuries have meant that he may not be able to use the costume plus he has not been asked by Lucas to return.
In the same article it was suggested that James Earl Jones may have recorded stock footage for the final scene of Episode III in case he "meets his maker" before filiming occurs.

February 2000
EpisodeIII.com mentioned that many mayors, movie makers and other such illuminum had gathered together to discuss using New Zealand as a place perfect for making movies. Although they lacked the facilities to draw Episode II there they are confident that Episode III could make it here...
