There are several harmful pollutants produced when fossil fuels are combusted, which challenge mainly human- and other life’s health. Several important pollutants are produced by fossil fuel combustion: carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and hydrocarbons. In addition nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons can combine in the atmosphere to create smog. All of these gases can be extremely harmful in many ways to humans and other animal life on earth.
