Food and the Fantasy Races Dwarves Elves Gnomes Halflings Orcs Home |
Halflings eating habits and metabolic system are quite different than humans, for they usually eat six meals a day (the human eating 2 or 3). However their foods are usually quite similar to humans. Large animals are less often used for food than smaller ones. Beef and venison are uncommon while rabbit and goose are frequently used. Halflings also use different spices than humans so similar foods often have a distinctive flair. Halflings are also some of the best at making confections and sweet bake goods. Halflings are avid gardeners. It is rare to find a halfling home without some kind of garden. These gardens containe vegetables, herbs, and fruits to be used on the meal table. Goose and Gravy pie: A thick, sticky, unleavened dough is placed on a stone, some goose meat and giblets are placed on top of the dough along with some broth and vegetables. More dough is placed on top of that and it is baked on the stone until the dough is golden brown and the filling warmed. Halfling Tarts: A variety of baked tarts rivaled by none. Candied flowers: Beautiful and delicious, many types of eatable flowers are candied with sugar, honey or other syrups. Many seek the sweet and delicate tastes of these confections. Seed Cakes: receipe Small muffin sized cakes, a favorite with halflings. No self respecting hobbit would be caught without these treats in their home when guests arrived. |
