Bausch & Lomb Launches Biotrue CL Solution

The NYTimes.com reported this morning: "Biotrue professes to mimic nature by using hyaluronan, a substance similar to tears first developed for ocular surgery. It has a pH level of 7.5, which the brand describes as the center of the range for healthy tears. Hyaluronan is not in any other lens solutions in the United States, the company says." It also reportedly has a biodegradable box and bottle, which isn't as green as it may seem. The article also goes into the impact or lack of impact of the ReNu recall in 2006.

AOA Gives UV Acceptance Rating to 1-Day Acuvue
According to a press release, " 1•Day Acuvue Trueye brand contact lenses today became the fifth contact lens in the Acuvue line to receive the Seal of Acceptance for Ultraviolet Absorbing Contact Lenses from the American Optometric Association's (AOA) Commission on Ophthalmic Standards."

Varvatos 10 and Wants to Party
According to WWD.com (Women's Wear Daily), "This fall, designer John Varvatos will celebrate 10 years in business with an ad campaign, commemorative eyewear and fragrance, and a bash in the Bowery." I'm not sure why we or WWD are running this story.

Pixel and Aspex Hook Up for Electronic Eyewear

Vision Monday reported recently that "PixelOptics has finalized a licensing agreement with Aspex Eyewear under which Aspex is granted exclusive rights for 10 years to manufacture, market and sell PixelOptics’ emPower! electronic eyewear in North America. Aspex will have the responsibility of manufacturing, distributing and selling the frames, which are capable of housing Pixel’s electronic focusing eyeglass lenses."

Armani Launches New Line

Eyesmart.com reports that Armani is launching a new line called "Frames of LIfe."

"A new edition of the classic, round optical frames that are strongly inspired by the '20s. Temples are characterised by a light tubular plastic decorative trim and a piston hinge. They are available in shades of black/ruthenium, glossy brown/brown and Havana/matt silver."

Marcolin and Diesel Hook Up

The Moodie Report reported that with a five-year agreement with the Diesel Group, Marcolin Group will be producing and distributing the line of  Diesel sunglasses and ophthalmic frames. The companies should finalize the deal in the autumn.
