Hoya Growers Website

Hi there from FEILDING, New Zealand.

Feilding is a town, situated about two hours drive north of Wellington on the Western side of the north island - go to the Link "NZ Map").

In 1993 (when my husband died) I joined the Wellington Hoya and Epiphyllum club. I try to get to the monthly club meetings that are held in Johnsonville (where I lived the first twenty years of my life) - a suburb of Wellington.

A little about me personally = I have four sons - 1st and 3rd married; 2nd and youngest still single. My oldest son and his family are back home living in Levin where the boys grew up.

I am only 4 ft 8 in tall.

I love my garden

and when I am not doing voluntary work, visiting old folk; if it is fine I am usually found in my garden where I take frequent rest breaks for the sake of my back.

I usually manage to amuse myself on my computer; sending emails to my online friends; playing Heroes of Might and Magic (fighting the dragons); or playing Backgammon while I am resting from gardening. The trouble is the time seems to run away with me and often the rest breaks are longer than the work periods (haha)

Since I remarried in 2006 I spend a lot of time planning holidays.. we have toured the south island.. been to Mt Maunganui..been to Melbourne in Australia, Norfolk Island and also been on cruises to Tasmania, the Queensland coast, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Singapore.

WOMAN IN THE GLASS

When you get what you want in your struggle for self

And the world makes you queen for a day,
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself,
and see what THAT woman has to say.

And call you a person of place
But the woman in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look her straight in the face.

She's the woman to please, never mind all the rest
For she's with you clear up to the end
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the woman in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the woman in the glass!

Wellington Epiphyllum & Hoya Society

The benefits of belonging to the society are many; firstly you get to know other people who are interested in the same plants that you are - most grow other plants too.

If you live in the lower part of the north island you can attend all or some of the monthly meetings.

But even if you live in other parts of the country or overseas there is a wonderful journal "Epiflora" that is published quarterly and is of great value.
