Jessy woke up to the sound of a TV down the hall. She sat up and stretched, checked herself to make sure she didn't look to bad, and walked down the hall towards the sound. She peaked into Chris's room, since the door was open a bit, and saw him sitting, in shock, staring at the news reporter on the TV.
"Chris? What's going on?" She whispered.
Chris looked up and motioned for her to come in. "Someone else got killed... Two, actually..." Chris said, frowning.
"Who?" Jessy asked with a worried look.
"Kevin and Nick..." Chris answered, looking back at the screen. "Found them at the club they were at last night, nobody saw anything."
"Oh my god... And they think it's the same people that killed Britney?" Jessy asked.
Chris just nodded in response. "The guys don't know yet, they're still asleep. I don't know how J will handle this, since that call he got..." Chris trailed off.
"What call?" Jessy asked, sitting down next to Chris.
"He didn't say who it was, but he looked so upset that I'm guessing it was one of the killers."
"They called him? Oh man... that's like rubbing salt in an open wound."
Chris nodded, and looked up as someone passed by the door. "Hey Joe?" he called.
"Yeah?" Joey stopped and looked in.
"Could you wake the others up? There's something you guys should see."
"What happened? There wasn't another killing, was there...?" Joey asked, but when he saw the look on Chris's face he knew the answer.
"I'll go get them..." Joey said softly and headed off to wake the guys. He walked in a few minutes later, the guys and Ashley in tow.
"What's going on?" Lance asked as they all sat down around Jess and Chris.
"Look," Was all Chris said.
The guys turned to the TV and there was a collective gasp. They all stayed quiet to listen to the reporter.
"-There was a letter found at the scene, but police won't say who it is addressed to. There are rumors floating around that the letter is addressed to Justin Timberlake, the youngest member of famed pop group *NSYNC. Again, nothing has been confirmed, but we will inform you if we hear anything more on that subject..."
Justin sat in shock for a moment, and then his head sank into his hands. Chris put his arm around Justin's shoulders to try and comfort him, but there really wasn't much he could do to help.
"God... What do they want with me? I haven't done anything... why are they doing this?" Justin sobbed, with a hint of anger in his voice.
"I don't know, J... I don't know." Chris replied.
Just then the doorbell rang. Joey got up and headed downstairs to get it. When he came back up there were two officers with him.
"Justin... they uh... they have something to give you," Joey stammered.
Justin raised his head slowly, wiping away some tears. He stood up and walked over to Joey and the officers.
"What is it?" He asked, his voice shaking slightly.
"We didn't open it since it's addressed to you, but we needed to be here when it was opened in case there's something to help us with the case," one of the officers said, handing him an envelope. Everyone could see that there was more in it than just a piece of paper.
With trembling hands, Justin took the envelope and opened it. He tilted his head down and looked inside, nearly dropping it when he saw what was inside.
"Britney..." He whispered, reaching inside and pulling out the necklace he had given her for her birthday the year before.
The guys looked at each other and looked back up at Justin as he pulled out a folded letter.
'Hello Mr. Timberlake. Enjoying the news, lately? Well, we hope you like this lovely gift we took from Britney before she died. Pity, she was so sexy, too. Even while she was covered in blood. We only had a chance to get two of your rival band members, so now the rest will be watched over carefully. I guess now we'll have to come after your bandmates, next. Probably starting with that annoying friend of yours... Chris.'
Justin's face went pale as he read the typed words on the page. After reading the last sentence he dropped the paper and slid to the ground, putting his head in his hands once more. The other officer picked up the piece of paper and read it, then looked at his partner.
"Typed. That doesn't help us. But it refers to 'we', so we know for sure now there's more than one. Now, all of these guys have security, right?"
"Yes, I spoke with their manager last night," the first officer replied.
"Alright, well tell him he needs to step up security for Mr. Kirkpatrick. There's a direct threat to him in this," The second officer said, turning and walking out, the first officer following.
Chris sat for a moment, shocked at what he heard the officer say. He quickly shook it off and slid over to Justin, putting an arm around his shoulders.
"It's okay, J..." he said softly.
"I... they... and she..." Justin stuttered, looking at the necklace he still held firmly in his hand.
Justin looked up and stared Chris in the eye. "They won't hurt you... they can't hurt you..."
"I'll be okay, Justin. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine," Chris reassured his friend, but inside he was trying to reassure himself of that.
