Topic: Work
I work for a small non-profit organization that has a board made up of several older men that scratch each other's's balls. We don't do anything here without making sure it won't piss off the board. I've worked here for a year...over a year I guess. I'm here until I graduate most likely or at the very least until I start my spring internship (which I should totally have lined up already and don't).
I received word today that I have a few practices that "one of the board members" finds unprofessional. They are as follows:
-I answer the phone unprofessionally.
-I talk too fast.
-I seem uninformed.
-I need to be more clear when explaining things.
-I say "yeah" and "uh huh" too often.
Well sir, you are a prick and I know exactly which one you are. Unlike everyone else at this organization I am not scared of or intimidated by you or your cronies. To you I say this:
-How does one answer the phone more professionally than, "(Name of company), this is Morgan."? I mean honestly. I don't giggle or laugh or sound bored. I answer it just like that. If that isn't professional, please show me what is.
-I do talk too fast. I always have. I don't realize I do it and it isn't done to be malicious and piss off our members. Some people stutter, some people are chronic sex hounds. I talk fast.
-Um, YEAH I'm uninformed. No one tells me anything. I'm the receptionist and that's all. I'm here part time and do not know what is happening with the conference right now or where the executive director is. The latter is definitely not my fault, as he sneaks out the back door so we don't know he leaves and he also tells us he'll be in and then he doesn't show up and GOD FORBID we try to call his cell. He won't answer the motherfucker. I answer the phone, file, and know basic information. So yeah, I guess maybe I'm uninformed. Talk to you boy about that!
-Do I need to be more clear? Or do people need to be less stupid??
-Yeah, I do say "yeah" and "uh huh" a lot. So does everyone else you talk to! The next time you as if the Executive Director is in and I say no and ask if you want to leave a message, I request that you say, "Yes, please," instead of, "Yeah. Would you?" When you do that and thank me for doing so I will reply, "You're very welcome, sir. Would you like me to wipe your ass too??"
I'm glad we could reach this understanding.
