MATERIAL Columbia Knitting and Crochet Perle (Art. 611A) No. 3, 2 balls Pink, 1 ball Blue, 1 ball Green Columbia Steel Crochet Hook No. 5 Or Columbia Mercerized Cordonnet (Art. 561) No. 3, 4 balls Pink, 1 ball Blue, 1 ball Green Columbia Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 Columbia Pearl Satin Soles, 1 pair Pink Ribbon No. 5, 1 yard Ch = Chain Afghan Stitch = Should be worked with a long even hook. Make a chain length required, draw a loop through every stitch of chain, retain loops on hook. ROW 2 - When all stitches are taken up, pass thread over hook, draw through first stitch, thread over hook, draw through 2 stitches, continue passing thread over hook and drawing through 2 loops, these loops look like upright stitches. ROW 3 - Pick up each of these upright stitches, draw a loop through each, retaining these on needle. When all are picked up repeat 2d row. (Repeat 2d and 3d rows alternately.)
INSTRUCTIONS ROW 4 - Pick up 12 loops on hook as in afghan stitch before, wind pink around hook and take up the thirteenth stitch in the second row, and on this work a puff stitch as follows - thread around hook, pull through stitch, thread around hook, pull through same space, thread around hook, pull through all the loops made for puff, pick up the blue thread and drop the pink leaving same in back of work, now pick up the next 12 stitches, and work off same as in afghan stitch, you will have 24 blue and 1 pink stitch in this row. ROW 5 - Plain afghan stitch in blue. ROW 6 - 10 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 3 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 10 afghan stitches. ROW 7 - Plain afghan stitches. ROW 8 - 8 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 7 afghan stitches, 1 puff, 8 afghan stitches. ROW 9 - Afghan stitches. ROW 10 - 6 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 5 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 5 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 6 afghan stitches. ROW 11 - Afghan stitches. ROW 12 - 8 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 7 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 8 afghan stitches. ROW 13 - Afghan stitches. ROW 14 - 10 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 3 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 10 afghan stitches. ROW 15 - Afghan stitches. ROW 16 - 12 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 12 afghan stitches. ROW 17, 18, 19 - Plain afghan stitches. Break blue and pink cotton and finish ends. With pink cotton work 1 Sg C between each of the 25 afghan stitches, work 32 ribs of Sg C for side of slipper, taking the back stitch only. For other side start the first Sg C next to the 25 Sg C made for first side, in order to get a diamond shape out of the blue afghan stitches, work 32 ribs for this side, sew up the back, make one row of Sg C all around top of slipper. FOR CUFF - Make Ch of 16 stitches, 3 rows of afghan stitch. ROW 4 - 3 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 2 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 2 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 2 afghan stitches, 1 puff stitch, 3 afghan stitches. 2 rows afghan stitch. Hereafter work 1 puff stitch all around cuff on the third stitch in every third row, making 21 puffs for length; repeat fourth row; 3 rows plain afghan stitches, and break blue cotton, with the pink cotton work one row Sg C all around sides and bottom of cuff. With the green cotton work two long stitches around each side of the puffs, to give them the appearance of rosebuds. Sew cuff to slipper part. Sew on to sole and trim with ribbon bow in front.
