The
Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation is an independent group that raises money from the community to assist the Prince George Regional Hospital in a number of ways. The Foundation provides funds for specialized equipment, renovation to the building, and additional training for staff. The Foundation recently purchased a digital catscan and plans to purchase an MRI in the near future.
Since 1996 the fire fighters have participated in supporting the Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation by raising money each year
through a number of fund raisers including the Oldtimers Hockey Challenge ,
the Allstars Baseball Game and the
Harley Davidson Raffle.
Fire fighters also participate in the
Spirit of the North Telethon
each year by answering pledge lines.
By 2000 the fire fighters of Local 1372 have donated over $128,000 with about $30,000 being donated annually as a result of the various fund
raising events. This money has purchased three pediatric cardiac monitor stations, a urological holmium-yag laser machine (used to treat prostate
cancer), a "bear hugger" (used in O.R. for body temperature control) and a remote vital signs monitor. Funds have also been designated
for a pediatric theme room that will be completed following the renovations currently underway at the Hospital. The fire fighters are one of the
largest contributors to the Foundations.
The Foundation is privileged to have fire fighter Darrell Kloschinsky as a director on the board. Darrell also coordinates the fire fighter's involvement in the Foundation.
