The Oldtimers' Hockey Challenge began in 1989, and was developed to take hockey fans back in time - to the youthful days of old-time hockey in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Today is has spread across North America where it supports numerous worthy causes. For more information check out the Old Timer's Hockey Challenge Homepage.
In March of each year the Fire Fighters and Police challenge about 16 of the Ex-NHL'ers in support of various worthwhile charities in our city. Initially it was only the R.C.M.P. hockey team that played the Old Timers but in 1999 the Prince Goerge fire fighters joined forces with the R.C.M.P. to form a combined team and have been refered to, in fun, as the "Guns-n-Hoses" Team ever since. In 2000, the Fire Fighters and Police played against 16 "Old-Timers" including such stars as Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne and Dave "Tiger" Williams.
In 2000 over $9,000.00 was donated to the Child Development Centre.
Each year the Fire Fighters and the R.C.M.P. take turns deciding which charity the funds will be given to (in 1999 a similar amount was given to the R.C.M.P Victim Services).
Fire Fighter Rob Ingham co-ordinates the Old-Timers Hockey Challenge in Prince George on behalf of the Fire Fighters and the local charities.
