Natural Landscapes

Although, the environmentalist groups that oppose ANWR exploration would have you believe that the coastal plain is full of greenery and wildlife all year long, that simply is not true. The coastal plain of ANWR is not postcard quality landscape, and nine months out of the yearh it is a frozen wasteland.

Keep in mind that ANWR is more than 19 million acres. That is enormous! It is bigger than 10 American states, in fact. Only 1.5 million acres along the coast would be open for exploration. Of the portion opened, only 2,000
acres would be affected.

It simply does not make sense to say we should not explore ANWR's coastal plain for oil and natural gas because the land was set aside almost 50 years ago when the United States was not consuming or importing nearly as much energy. Esspecially since the portion of ANWR desired for exploration is barren and frozen 75% of the year.
