Later Relationships
A subsidiary of Kouji's Love-Love Page.

This page is devoted to the end of the series and the dynamic between the main characters. As such, it contains SPOILERS for the end of Ryvius. Focus is on the last 3-4 episodes

I repeat, SPOILERS.

Later Relationships: by the end of the series

Kouji and Yuki: Still not really talking. Yuki blames Kouji for not being able to take care of Aoi, because he was busy being Ikumi's lackey (my term, not theirs). So when Aoi was attacked by Aranea, Yuki blames Kouji. "You can't even take care of a girl," I believe he says.
Later, when Ikumi is wavering between shooting Kouji or not, Yuki stops him, saving Kouji again. Yuki does care for his brother deep down. He really refuses to admit it, though.

Kouji and Aoi: Aoi reveals a very vulnerable side after Kozue's injury- her fear of being alone. She comes to depend on Kouji for support, although she is still the Mommy-like Aoi we see at the beginning. When they return to Ryvius, they are an official couple, or close enough. (A lot of my view on this relationship is in the Characters In-Depth section on Aoi.)

Kouji and Ikumi: Ikumi SHOT him. You'd expect Kouji to be mad. But he forgives him. He seems to understand Ikumi's desperation to create the perfect system, even though he knows it failed. When Ikumi finally breaks, Kouji puts him good arm around him and lets him cry. Kouji is still able to see the best in people, and although it seemed for a while that he was Akihiro to Ikumi's Nicks (as Akihiro seemed to think), Kouji moved beyond being Ikumi's former shadow and ex-best friend to forgive the shattered Ikumi. He acted quite normally to Ikumi when they returned to the Ryvius, proving to him that they are still friends.

Ikumi and Kozue: Ikumi is spurred on to create his perfect system by her injury. He leans on her heavily for support, and as long as he pleases her, he's fine. It is the arrival of help to Lift-ship, and her rejection of him that finally makes him snap.
Later, on their second journey, Ikumi admits to Kouji that he loved her. He was afraid to admit it because he couldn't protect his sister, whom he also cared for. He is frightened when he sees her again, but she smiles at him. He seems more relieved than glad, however, and it may be that they cannot go back to they way they were. But he seems glad that both Kouji and Kozue accept him back.

Aoi and Kozue: Kozue refuses to speak to Aoi for awhile, and ignores her on the Lift Ship when they are rescued. After her assault, Kozue is furious at Aoi. She says Aoi tries to have both Aibas, and all she wants is Ikumi all to herself. She is resentful of Aoi's wavering nature, and that, even though SHE was the one who had someone swear to protect her, SHE was the one who was hurt, while Aoi can't figure out her own feelings. I think that, by the time help came, she has realized what she said. She's ashamed of it, and this is why she turns her face from Aoi in the Lift Ship.
But when they return to the Ryvius, Kozue and Aoi embrace, and are together when Ikumi and Kouji return. They are making an effort to become friends like they once were. They are easier with each other than the boys (girls tend to be more open in general, so that helps).

Juli and Blue: Juli realized that she cares for Blue. She thinks of him constantly, and admires his strength. She draws her strength from Blue's memory, shown by the way she gets determined when she looks at his bandana. Blue also thinks of Juli constantly during the time he is hiding on the Ryvius.
Although we don't see him in the last episode, we know that Blue is back because Yuki has his bandana, and we can assume that Juli will seek him out eventually.
In the last episode, Juli is wearing a ring on the fourth finger of her left hand- the finger that a wedding band is traditionally worn on. It is never said where the ring came from in the series, but would she wear a ring if it hadn't been given by someone she cares about? A ring is a much simpler symbol than an evening gown, I think.
Unfortunately, I have also heard that it's NOT from Blue, which makes me a little sad. Anyone have confirmation on this rumor? Email me.

Juli and Pat: With much of Juli's time being taken by running the ship, Pat is forced into Lucson's care. He stills adores Juli, but becomes attached to both Lucson and Ran (although it doesn't show much), and is quick to run to them when Juli disappoints him. Juli tries to be nice to Pat, I think, but she also has her duties, and tries to make Pat grow up a little. By the end, Pat still adores Juli above everyone else, but he is quicker to realize that he likes Ran, and even Lucson.

Lucson and Pat: After spending so much time together, Lucson and Pat are close. But Pat still prefers Juli, and zones out Lucson when in her presence. Lucson, for his part, is genuinely fond of Pat, and treats him like a little brother- almost like he would a son.

Yuki and Cullen: During the series, Cullen decided she liked Yuki, and insinuated herself into his life. She's the type to go for what she wants. "Hito wa itsuka shinuwa. Dakara atashi wa yaritai koto o yaruno. Im wa Yuki ga atashi no subete..."- People die sometimes. That's why I do the thing I want to do. Right now, Yuki is my everything.... She is very fond of Yuki, and makes every attempt to understand and work well with him, but she doesn't push him to do things. For his part, he doesn't show much, but I think he appreciates that she's there for him. Plus she can keep up with him and even anticipate him in battle. That's probably a huge plus for him.
