Kakyou Kuzuki, Bishie of the Month About Kakyou; ---Kakyou Kuzuki is the Yumeni (Dreamgazer) from the Dragons of Earth. He's a very sad person, who lost all hope in life after loosing his true love, Hokuto. ---The position of a Yumeni entails both gifts and large consequences. Kakyou, as it's expressed in the anime, cannot go outside, and has extreme trouble moving his limbs. During all of the X/1999 Anime, with the exception of the OVAs, Kakyou is in an coma, of which causes him to dream constantly. However, in their dreams, Yumenis can see the future, and predict events. Kakyou, seeing Hokuto's death, but unable to do anything about it, was griefstricken, and after such a tramatic event, he wished only for death, but could not wake out of his coma in order to commit suicide.
---Whenever Kakyou needs to contact someone, he does so through their dreams, or, on rare occasions, he will possess someone's body and speak through it, as he did with Kotori, in her dying moment. The powers of an Yumeni allows him to bring people into his dream, as well as entering other's dreams, and he uses both of those abilities to a vast extent during the anime. In his dreams, he can also pull back past memories and show them to himself, or people, as if there were as real as the day they happened. ---Kakyou's apperance is strictly beautiful, and at times, has a strong hint of the feminine nature. He acts strictly male, so his apperearance is more angel-like than that of a bishouen-lover, but the most noticible part about Kakyou, besides his luxiriously long white hair, is his dim golden eyes, which constantly have a sad, and/or errie look in them. When Kakyou possesses someone's body, their eyes become Kakyou's, and look strangely like an animal's, in a very errie sort of way. Kakyou, however, is frail and weak, from being in a coma, unmoving in bed for so long. The only way he was able to see his own apperance was through other people's dreams, people that had seen him in real life, and for a good while, he held a false image of himself, one with short hair that wore suits instead of kimonos.
---If Kakyou is the one dreaming, and not entering anyone else's dream, he's usually in one of two places. The first place, where he is most commonly found, is a temple-like area, where the floor is made of water. Feathers are often represented hitting the water and making ecchoing noises, in the anime, and the paper-thin doors often open and close to reveal him, or his visions. As for the other place he's found, he's only found there because of Hokuto. When he first met her, after pulling her into his dreams, since he didn't want to be alone, she asked to take him somewhere. Upon asking him where he wanted to go, Kakyou quietly replied that he wanted to see the Sea, and so, Hokuto pulled Kakyou back into her own dream, with a representation of the sea, complete with seagulls. Kakyou is found sometimes in that area, sometimes wearing a trenchcoat adorned outfit with blue turtleneck, in contrast to his normal kimono.
Finally, while Kakyou himself is a very sad person, he's also kind when he needs to be, and is a very gentle person, perhaps because he has no strength nor will to lash out at anyone. Kuzuki Kakyou is your classic representation of the "Tragic Bishie" archetype, and he plays the part very well.
